We had the good fortune of connecting with Steven Barnes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Steven, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted a career as a writer: I simply knew I’d rather FAIL as a writer than succeed at anything else. Once that decision was made, I just needed to find working writers to model.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I don’t care about being different from other artists. I care about writing with my truest voice, according to my values and beliefs. I got here by studying human performance, and the patterns that create a life balanced in body, heart, and mind. Easy? Life is hard, so no. But it has been fascinating, frustrating, exhausting, exhilarating, and joyful. I model success, studying people who overcame the challenges I face.
I guess I just want people to know I’ve done the best I could.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Probably introduce them to some of my other friends, and share dreams and resources. The mental-emotional connection would be the most important. I’d also probably interact with them physically in some way: yoga, martial arts, etc.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to thank my children Jason and Nicki, my awesome wife Tananarive Due, and my sister Joyce, who taught me to read.
