We had the good fortune of connecting with Steve Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Steve, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk is living life to the fullest.

When do you feel the most alive? Is it taking the road most travelled? Doing what everyone else is doing, going the places everyone else goes and living life trying to fit in? To me the leap of faith is made better by jumping off the diving board and getting launched. If you have faith in the depth of water and you’re ability to swim, to survive, the risk may seem scary at first glance, but in reality you’ve done your due diligence and you’re prepared for success. Things can and will go wrong, but you know your ability to survive will keep your head above water.

Without risk in life and career, we are stuck living someone else’s dream. I choose to live my own. It’s simply worth the risk.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Let’s Party! is an action sports brand that produces traction mainly for surfboards, skimboards, and wakesurfs/skims. Our lineup also includes clothing and accessories to compliment our hard goods.

We recently celebrated our 10 year anniversary, though the company was re-branded and relaunched in July of 2020. We were the first traction company to focus first on skim boarding as a sport. It’s what we knew best.

Starting Let’s Party! was hectic. I was managing Exile Skimboards at the time and juggling that position while starting a new brand was never-ending work. I loved it. One of the biggest challenges was simply waking up and getting to work day in and day out. I found morning meditation to be a huge help and would start every day with time to breath and relax and get in a good state of mind to tackle each day individually.

Let’s Party! was founded on the love for surfing and skimboarding, having a positive attitude in and out of the water, and loving life to the fullest. We keep things relaxed on the surface, but stay serious with our product quality. Similar to a good solid mullet, business up front, party in the back.

The biggest lesson learned is that you cannot be shy with your dreams. Share them with people, and never be shy in asking for help when it’s needed. Most people will be surprised by how many people are willing to help when you drop the fear of asking for it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My roots are in Southern Orange County, so I would get straight to Laguna Beach to show off the hidden coves and beautiful beaches there. Firstly though, assuming I’m picking you up from John Wayne Airport, we would go straight to Sgt Pepperoni’s for a slice or two of Costa Mesa’s finest pizza. New York style greatness.

We would sneak down to PCH and come in from the coast, getting a view of all the beaches from Crystal Cove to Aliso Creek stopping in at Woods Cove and a few other secret little spots.

During the stay we would hit the best Thai food spot I’ve ever been to, Thai by the Sea in South Laguna. Sushi at 9Style in San Clemente. Mexican food at South of Nick’s in San Clemente.

Surfing Lower’s is a must for any surf nut. Sure it’s crowded, sure it’s a mess, but you only need 1 wave there and you’ll be stoked.

A nice drive out through the canyons by Holy Jim to see some of what the beautiful inland areas have to offer, and a bunch of time at the beach sounds ideal. Easy peezy.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have been blessed with meeting and befriending incredible people along this journey of life. My parents, Bob and Carol Taylor instilled great morals, a belief in God, and a world filled with love from an early age.

I truly started becoming myself when I started skimboarding. I met Aaron Peluso, Ben Kotin and Joe Bailey right off the bat. The three of them were major influences in me growing within the sport and eventually running the top high-end skimboard company in the world, Exile Skimboards. Without their friendship and guidance Lets’ Party! likely never would have came about.

Friends Harley Nelson and Aaron Fujimoto were the spark to starting the business while we built a silly vlog. Faith Huang inspired me through business and friendship. Blair Conklin has been our rockstar team rider and is now a part of the ownership team. Cole Friedman has built our brand visually with graphics and his incredible artistic mind. The list is never-ending, with most recently falling in love and getting married to my wife Mary. Her love and support gets me through every day, no matter what surprises come about.
