We had the good fortune of connecting with Stacy Lederman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Stacy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my own business so that I could meet the needs of my family as well as follow my passion and earn an income. I used to work/paint from home when the kids were younger and now I have my own studio space. It is important for me to set my own hours and be flexible so starting my own thing seemed like the best way to meet the needs of myself and my family.
Please tell us more about your art. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
My art is mixed media or abstract painting incorporating text and photography. I think my art is unique in that I come up with new concepts but incorporate daily life to show the beauty and is all around us. My journey is unique and was not easy in that I reinvented myself in my 40’s after not working for over a decade while raising my kids. I had never explored art before, but during a time of change, decided to give it a try as I loved my previous creative career in fashion. Mostly though, just because it felt good. Years later when people wanted to buy my pieces, I decided to try it as full time career. Some thought this was bold or scary and that I should find a more traditional income source, I felt it is was freeing. I had worked in a few different industries before and although they were great, I decided that after all this time I wanted to work with something that genuinely made me feel happy. I am grateful to be able to pursue a career that gives back and feeds my soul. What I have learned along the way is that fear is useless and finding a way to be authentic in your life will always keep you on the right path both personally and professionally. My brand or series are ever changing. The one thing that has stayed constant is that I seek to find beauty everywhere. Specifically in the everyday or unnoticed. Inspiration is everywhere, sometimes we just need to change our filter a bit to see it.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to family and friends. I am so lucky to have the best friends who have encouraged me in this journey to take on art as a full time career. They have both supported and me over the years, sometimes giving me the little kick I need to keep staying positive and focused. I am also so grateful to have the most amazing family that behind the scenes that helps me stay on top of everything, sustain me, and provide inspiration to keep creating.
