We had the good fortune of connecting with Simone Henriques and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Simone, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risk has been part of my life since I moved to America, while in my young years, bringing along with me just a small luggage, no English, and few dollars in my pocket.

I look at taking risk as an opportunity to grow and better oneself. I think people forget that we are constantly taken risks, whether from small tasks to a more complex matter. Being afraid of taking risks will only hold you back and leave you with the thoughts “what if I had taken the chance?”

The fear of failure never goes away, not even for those who have already succeeded. There is always tough decisions to be made and risks to take.

Ray Dalio once said, ” Never rule out a goal because you think it’s unattainable. Be audacious.”

And I would say…be persistent and share the support to others along the way.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Mimo & Sophi was created during 2020 – the year we realized we all needed a little extra self-love. I have always been appreciative of thoughtful gifts, especially those carefully chosen and wrapped in beautiful packages and adorable wrapping papers! Being a native Brazilian has given me the edge I have for this appreciation. In Brazil, gifting someone is a normal occurrence, practically embedded in our culture. Birthdays and celebrations are never forgotten and presenting our loved ones with big or small – yet thoughtful – gifts are welcome and expected.

Mimo translates to ‘the art of spoiling someone with care and love.’

Sophi comes from the idea of bringing a sophisticated touch to our daily lives. Our purpose with Sophi’s Magazine is to share all the amazing work done by women with you. It is a space to promote ideas, connect with like-minded people, and present you with a diverse, fun, and exciting lifestyle.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love San Diego and so many places can be quite charming. However, I have to say that dining by the ocean is always my favorite thing to do. Give me a view, a nice glass of wine, and I am happy!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I find inspirations in amazing women like Amy Cuddy, Sara Blakely, Sophia Amorouso, and Jamie Kern Lima. But definitely, my source of encouragement comes from close friends like Alexandra Lednick – Owner of personal organizing service.
