We had the good fortune of connecting with Shea Sjoberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shea, why did you pursue a creative career?
My grandfather was an architect, and my mom was a graphic designer so I guess it’s just in my blood. Ever since I can remember, I’ve been drawing, painting, building and getting my hands dirty in different creative mediums.
What should our readers know about your business?
Starting High Side Coffee has been one of the most educational, frustrating, and rewarding things I’ve ever done. I’ve always had entrepreneurial aspirations, but this business was the first that I really sunk my teeth into. Not a damn thing has been easy, and I’m guessing this will never change.
My background is in graphic design, and I have spent my life working for clients and designing thing for THEM. High Side started out as a passion project to design what I WANT to design, and I think this has been what really sets us apart.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh boy, that’s a tough question! My favorite thing about San Diego is not necessarily the city itself, but it’s proximity to all the great stuff around it. I would probably take them on a few day trips. Heading across the border to Mexico is always a favorite. A day trip out east to the desert. If they are here on bikes we will normally do a ride to Julian and explore around the mountains for a bit.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Big shoutout to my business partner Dimitri Goulas!
