We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Lanza and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Integrity is central to every aspect of the work being done at Adoption Center of San Diego. It is so important that I am clear in my language, honest about expectations, and honoring of both birth parents and adoptive couples. Adoption is beautiful and fragile, filled with joy and sorrow. In these most vulnerable moments, it is crucial that the process and the people involved are treated with extreme care.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career is a unique one as facilitating adoptions is a job many have never even heard of. I knew I could never sit behind a desk for 40 hours a week. I’m driven by serving others and there is nothing better at keeping me motivated than answering the immediate needs of others. My work is high paced, ever changing, and deeply impactful. I feel strongly about the sanctity of life and knew I wanted to work in a field where women are given options and are educated on these options with great love and understanding. I want others to know that adoption is a beautiful choice. Birth mothers are my heroes. They exemplify a mother’s love in the most tender way imaginable. Putting your child’s needs above your own wants is pure love. I only work with local San Diego couples who desire to embrace fully open adoptions. This means that the adoption triad of birth parents, adoptive couple, and child, all have a lifelong relationship. There is so much love, respect, and admiration in our adoptions and it is truly a privilege to play a small roll in their journeys.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I’m a San Diego native and am thankful each day for all our beautiful city has to offer! From the laid back beach town of OB to historic Balboa Park there are endless things to see and do is this amazing city! When friends are in town we head to Windansea Beach in La Jolla with burritos in hand from The Taco Stand. I love to walk down the beach, hunt for sea glass and stay for the sunset. When in need of some humor, the Comedy Store in La Jolla does not disappoint! It doesn’t get much better on a warm summer night than grabbing food and cocktails from Little Italy’s Food Hall, sitting under the lights in the plaza while listening to music. After all of the eating and drinking, it’s nice to head out and get some exercise while enjoying amazing views hiking Cowles Mountain, Torrey Pines, or Potato Chip Rock on Mt. Woodson Summit.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So my job is 24/7, I am working with others during the most important moments of their lives while also trying to stay present in the lives of my family and friends. This means that I have to make decisions each day of how to prioritize my time and I constantly find myself saying “I just have to take this one quick call.” So the biggest shoutout goes to my Husband for the years he has spent hushing one of our kids out of a room so I can take a call, sitting alone at a restaurant while I walked away to handle a crisis, or even changing seats at a stoplight so I can handle emails in the car!
