We had the good fortune of connecting with Sara Wingate and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sara, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
When I opened Bliss Facials in 1999, I was newly married, and my husband and I didn’t have kids yet, so I worked 5-6 days a week. Now that my kids are grown, I find myself working much longer days and even coming in on Sundays for certain clients.
Since January of 2020, I’ve been hitting all sorts of goals for business and in my personal life. What I never had the energy for in the past I now do in abundance. I have reached a point in my life where I can make myself a priority and the rest falls into place. That is how I define balance.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Wow, so many things to say on this one! When I started I was 30 and now I’m 53. There has been lots of growth, mistakes, rewards, and life lessons. I recently launched my new website which I am beyond excited about. It features an array of new treatments as well as the launch of my acne program.
I was just asked to create a video series of home skincare tips and tricks for The Craft Center’s “DO Try This at Home” at UCSD.
I am constantly moving forward, learning new treatments, testing products, redecorating, and taking esthetic classes. I’m a restless soul that believes in changing things up. #Gemini
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I’m a huge supporter of small businesses! We own a Mexican restaurant in Del Mar on Camino Del Mar called En Fuego Cantina and Grill so order the En Fuego margarita! I love exploring South Park and eating at The Rose on 30th Street. Another favorite spot is Nectarine Grove on Coast Highway in Encinitas. They have an amazing menu for diet intolerances. San Diego is such an amazing city with the best laidback vibe!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love, and encouragement of others. So, is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the love and support from my amazing clients. Some of them have been with me since 1996 when I became a licensed esthetician. These relationships run deep. I see most of them every 4 weeks and you build this incredible trust with each other.
A good facialist not only analyzes what your skins needs are but gets to know you on a deeper level; hormonal imbalances, stressors, diet, travel…all these effects your skin.
After being in the skincare business all these years, I intuitively know if my client needs to relax, vent or requires extra love and nurturing during their time with me.
I am completely dedicated and grateful to every one of my clients.
