We had the good fortune of connecting with Samira Sadeghlou and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samira, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
We care about our customers! We have built a community where our customers are more like friends. We help them overcome their difficulties with their plants and listen to their challenges. Our goal is to provide all of our customers with the tips and tricks for them to be successful plant owners. We pride ourselves on having a 100% message response rate, which is a sign that every question and message means a lot to us.
What should our readers know about your business?
My journey with plants started when my husband bought me a peace lily as a birthday gift during our first year of marriage. After a while, I began rescuing plants from big chain stores. Slowly, my collection grew, and as I saw these plant babies grow and thrive, I started feeling like I was making a difference. I have always struggled with depression and anxiety because I have never felt like I fit in anywhere. Taking care of my plants made me feel better about myself as a person and gave me a sense of belonging. I would find YouTube videos and read any plant books I could get my hands on to research my new plants. I learned as much as possible about how to take care of them properly. Even then, I made mistakes and lost a few plants along the way. I truly enjoyed taking the time to care for them, and in the end, my plant knowledge grew tremendously. In January 2020, I hurt my knee, and I had to take it easy until I fully recovered. At the beginning of the pandemic, I started to have a hard time, and my depression was at a high. I spent a lot of time in my parent’s garage propagating and creating plant displays and succulent gardens. People loved what I was making and even offered to buy them. Seeing how much doing this brought me joy, I slowly started selling my arrangements online. After a few weeks, he created an Instagram account for me, which I was hesitant about at first. After the account was live, we decided to have a pop-up house plant sale, and the rest is history! Our goal for PlanterSam is to create an open and welcoming plant community that is understanding to all backgrounds and walks of life. When you visit our local plant nursery in San Marcos, we strive to create an atmosphere where you feel welcomed and safe. We believe all plants are beautiful, and everyone should have access to them at an affordable price. We do not believe in overcharging for plants or that they should be considered a luxury. You can count on our family team to be trustworthy and helpful to you on your plant journey. We want to support you and want you to know we are all in this together!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take them to Lake Arrowhead to enjoy a couple of days there or visit Coronado and have a blast on a jetski! One of the places that we would eat would be Umami Sushi in San Marcos.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Duwara Consciousness is one of the organizations that deserve a SHOUTOUT! They are doing some incredible work with people experiencing homelessness in San Diego. They have been one of the most significant inspirations for my career.
