We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Black and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantha, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
How much work goes on behind the scenes. The session doesn’t stop when our camera stops clicking. It’s hours sometimes of editing work that needs to be done.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Oh man. Before I got into photography, I did customer service for 12 years. I think it’s helped mold me into knowing how to work with people, and making them feel at ease. I also don’t treat my clients like clients. Most have become friends of mine, and I absolutely love that one on one connection. Getting to this point was definitely not an easy feat. There were days I wanted to quit, and just move on. If it weren’t for my husband, and friendships, I wouldn’t be where I’m at today for sure. Also, Meg Bitton videos give me life! I learned so much from them, and when quarantine hit, that’s a lot of what I did, was watch and learn from the videos I didn’t have time to watch before.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If they’re a sushi person, one of my new favorite spots is Sushi One Spot, or Sushi Martini. While I don’t feel I’m hip per say, it’s a very hip vibe + all you can eat sushi, so you can’t go wrong with that. It just depends too on their mood. My husband and I LOVE Escape Rooms. So we’d probably do that as well. It’s fun to interact in a new way like that.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Honestly, I want to dedicate it to my clients. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today. A lot of my clientele are repeats. Some have followed me along my journey since the very beginning.
