We had the good fortune of connecting with Romila Mukerjea and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Romila, how does your business help the community?
Having a mission statement of helping to cure all diseases by 2050 is a pretty lofty goal, but Scientist.com is well on its way to accomplishing that. The company has created a paradigm shift in drug development by building an online marketplace connecting buyers and sellers of research services and products used in drug discovery. We’ve created a seamless process to cut down on red tape and lower barriers to create faster science. This became even more evident in 2020 with the Covid-19 pandemic. When cities, states, and countries were going into lockdowns, we were able to utilize our platform to connect researchers with suppliers both locally and globally so their research could continue. We were even able to help source Covid patient samples and assist in research for vaccine development and drug treatments. Having a background in infectious disease research, seeing the effects of increased efficiency in drug development research in real time and knowing I was helping was so rewarding.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a member of the Research Concierge, I work directly with researchers and suppliers to help source services and products necessary for their research. I also manage the scientific and technical content on the marketplace. Scientist.com is the world’s largest AI-powered marketplace for medical research. We help scientists discover medicines in less time and at lower cost. We were founded in San Diego in 2007 and have gone through many changes over the years to get to the global company that we are today. We are so proud to be at the forefront of creating digital AI technology for scientists to empower the pharma industry to approve drugs and complete research at record speeds. We are always excited to see what tool and innovation will come next.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots in SD have to be Fletcher’s Cove in Solana Beach for a day at the beach, el Zarape for their Cali Burritos, Bernardo Summit Trail for an excellent hike, and Alce for a spicy margarita!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To my dad, who instilled a passion for science and discovery within me at an early age, and my mom, who encouraged my creative side and has been a constant cheerleader throughout my life. My parents have provided such a strong support system by giving advice but trusting me to make my own decisions in both my personal and career development, even if they didn’t quite understand or agree with them.
