We had the good fortune of connecting with Robert Waldo Brunelle JR and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robert Waldo, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I had no choice. I was born an artist. I’ve been creating artwork since I was a toddler.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I learned to draw before I learned to write. I went to schools that had no art programs, so I was self taught until I attended college. There I learned to paint, sculpt and and make prints. In 1981 I became a middle school art teacher, a position I held for 31 years. In 1997 I launched my political cartoon strip Mr. Brunelle Explains It All.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in small town in VT, so I would show them the lovely scenery in the countryside, as well as two excellent art galleries in the area.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents, who, although not artists themselves, recognized the importance of my artistic leaning, and did all they could to encourage it.
