We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachelle Madrid and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachelle, why did you pursue a creative career?

A: My name is Rachelle Madrid, also known as OCHairQueen! I’ve been a hair stylist for 17 years. I studied at Vidal Sassoon, and did my apprenticeship at Jose Eber in Beverly Hills. One cannot have a more creative or artistic profession than styling hair, and I feel blessed to have chosen such a creative endeavor as a lifelong career.

Hair styling is so artistic because you creatively and totally transform a client’s
appearance in a short period of time. It’s incredibly rewarding to witness the joy, excitement, and satisfaction clients experience with a whole new look! My artistic mission is to give them the best hair possible with also taking into account how often they would like to be in the salon. Clients feel and look more beautiful, and you’ve added a good measure of happiness to their lives.

I was born to have an artistic life and career. As a child, I adored art class, crafts, and embroidering. Art was always my passion. Whenever I had elective classes in school, I always chose art. I learned from a very early age that I wanted to do something creative for the rest of my life, and the art of hair styling has made me truly happy and fulfilled. My early artistic skills blossomed into creating beautiful highlights, haircuts, and sewing extensions. Still to this day I love taking hair classes and being able to learn from the best in the industry. I can transform short, thin hair into thick long hair. It turns out that the art of hair styling is like arts and crafts … for adults!

Working as a professional hair stylist is a dream come true for me. I’m simply doing what I have always loved doing most – being creative and artistic.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

I love being creative whether that’s with hair, fashion, or posts on Instagram. It has been hard to run a business being a creative person. There has been a lot of trial and error. I recommend to seek advice from friends or family that you look up to in the business world. I want have a business based on kindness, and that is aspiring to others.
