We had the good fortune of connecting with Rac and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rac, how do you think about risk?
I’m always taking risks, my work is all about avoid the “normal”. What I do a lot is to experiment with different materials (painting) and patterns (clothe). Risk always takes me to new possibilities.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Painting is a mood of relief, the most poetical expression through the process of intuition; a bodily (self) exploration based mainly on the abstraction of the body itself and space. Drawing and photography always go with my process and production, they are notes that I take from the postures, textures, lights, spaces or anything that triggers something inside me. Garment and body care design / production is about imposing. I use the body and its ways to wear over skin to break boundaries; give a questionable thought to who sees it and a position of self enrichment to who wears it. With these textile productions I speak by the people, and for the people. There is no better way of emancipation than self-care. Beyond society, economy and gender; we should be over those concepts. It is necessary to stop thinking about what others do and individually focus on what is best for our personal well being, taking in consideration the welfare of the community that surround us. Sculptural pieces are rescuers of the physical space. Architectural and housing gestures that celebrate recycling and at the same time refer to deterioration and accumulation. The ” positive and negative ” use of physical and intellectual space. Art objects are moments which I express instantly with a random fleeting feeling, often with remnant materials from other pieces. They’re residues of thoughts that feed my production in form. Installation is Elsoldelrac’s atmosphere. Territory that functions as an art space and public rescued space. I’m interested in the dialogue between body, space, mind, art-object and the sense of presence that evidences of use and time that exist on my body of work can evoke. The exploration of materials is very present in my body of work. Mixing everyday elements and giving them a plastic use is a way to elevate the presence of our generally forgotten habitat.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Probably I’ll take em to walk around downtown and find a few spots to get something to eat, and drink. a walk on the beach for the sun set and hiking in the morning. There’s a one nice museum here in Tijuana so I’ll take em there too.
