We had the good fortune of connecting with Quynh Vu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Quynh, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?

Becoming a lifelong learner is the single most important thing that I can do as a Real Estate Investor and Realtor in the Kappel Realty Group. I am constantly reading up on the San Diego Housing Market Trends and laws that impact homeowners. The more that I can learn about my craft, the easier it will be for me to share this information and to help others in their journey to building financial wealth through real estate investments. When you are buying your first home, selling your existing home or taking the big leap to purchase your first real estate investment property, you are making one of the biggest financial decisions in your life. It’s important to work with a professional, who is highly educated and experienced, to guide you. When I started as a real estate investor, I was working full time as a pharmacist. As a pharmacist, the success of my career is linked to dispensing medications to patients as accurately as possible. Being that there is little margin of error allowed in the work that I do every day, I had to continually learn and create strategies to mitigate risk to ensure patient safety.

Being a careful and cautious pharmacist, the idea of real estate investment scared me initially. Education is the key to reducing risk. In 2018, I started attending local San Diego Real Estate Meet Ups to network with other professions so that I could learn more. I began reading books and listening to Podcasts in an effort to learn as much as I could so that I would not be scared of the decision making progress. Instead of allowing fear to prevent progress, I choose to learn as much as I can so that I could feel confident in our decisions. Over the last 3 years, we have purchased 10 properties, using learning as my primary strategy.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Working in Healthcare, for over 20 years in the pharmacy field, has taught me how to care and help patients in my community. Because I love learning and teaching, real estate was such a fun transition for me to help others in making one of the biggest decisions in their life. Going from hospital practice to real estate meant longer days and later nights. As with all new careers, the more time you spend on learning, the more you will benefit from it. “Don’t let the pursuit of perfection get in the way of progress,” is a quote that really resonates with me. Whether you are choosing a new home for your growing family, selling off your home to relocate, or if you are deciding to take the leap to buy your first rental property, I would be honored to help you. You can find me on Instagram @oursandiegohome to learn more about home buying or home styling tips. I created this page to share interior design inspiration, remodeling ideas, and home buying strategies. I’m excited to help you before, during and after you find the perfection home for your family.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
La Jolla Cove is my absolute favorite beach spot to enjoy the sunset in San Diego with gelato from Bobboi. I love taking visitors to the Little Italy Farmers Market and visiting local coffee shops such as Dark Horse and Better Buzz. A visit to San Diego would not be complete without fish tacos. Pacific Beach Fish Shop, The Taco Stand, and Blue Water Seafood Market & Grill are my favorite spots to grab food while exploring San Diego.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I started my real estate investment journey 3 years ago, while I was working as a pharmacist. I wanted to buy rental property so that I could use the income to help fund my son’s college education, but honestly the idea of having to be responsible for more than 1 mortgage actually made me very nervous. I started attending local real estate meetups led by Patrick Kappel to learn more. As I learned more about real estate, my fear was replaced with confidence in the decisions that we were making, because they were solidified by a solid foundation and understanding of real estate. As I created my first vacation home, I was supported by my friends in the San Diego Calligraphy Collective. Kim Nguyen @kimposed, Jamie Hodges @theletteredj and Kathleen Tse @tsecalligraphy are calligraphy artists, who created beautiful, travel themed murals to welcome our vacation home guests. Their talent and creativity are so incredibly inspiring. I am so grateful for their help and support during the early stages. Today, I own 10 properties and have joined the Kappel Realty Group, along with my husband, Tri Vu, so that we can share our experience with others who are wanting to learn more about how to build wealth through real estate investments. I am grateful for my real estate coaches, Kelsey Olson and Marel Dugan, who have taken the time to train me. I feel lucky to join a team, led by Patrick Kappel, who has personally helped me when I started a few years ago. My husband and 4 kids have really embraced my strong desire to become an entrepreneur and I am thankful for their help every step of the way.
