We had the good fortune of connecting with Polly Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Polly, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m originally from Sonoma County in Northern California, but I’ve lived in San Diego for about 15 years. Growing up, I was always around the medical field—My dad was a family physician and my mom, a pediatric dentist. I loved visiting their offices or going with my dad on his rounds at the hospital. While I had an interest in the medical world, I was also passionate about art. I like to paint, craft, design, and create. Working on random projects in my free time, as well as taking formal art classes, was always a big part of my childhood, adolescence, and college experience. I am very fortunate that artistry is an important aspect of my career today. After nursing school I was drawn to the world of aesthetics, as I knew this was an area of medicine that would allow me to combine my love for nursing and art.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Getting into the field of Aesthetic Medicine and becoming an Aesthetic Nurse was my ultimate goal, but it definitely took hard work, patience and determination. I’ve come a long way and feel blessed to be where I am today. Getting started in this industry wasn’t easy. As a new grad without any experience in aesthetics, I applied for any position I could find. I would walk into dermatology practices and medspas with my resume and introduce myself. I knew my future success was up to me, so I signed up for training courses and workshops to build my resume. Finally, I found a doctor in Orange County that offered a “training program” for injectables. After about a day of informal training, he offered me a job. Oh my god, I was terrified! I quickly realized that this was a not-so-great place to be and a not-so-great doctor, so I quickly got myself out of that situation. After more searching, I got a job for a large dermatology practice in Long Beach. It was an incredible opportunity where I was able to develop a solid foundation of knowledge in all things dermatology and aesthetics. The doctors I worked with and the lessons I learned were invaluable. Although I worked up in Long Beach, I wasn’t willing to leave San Diego. San Diego is where my heart is. I would drive up to work on Monday morning, stay at my sisters house in LA until Friday, and then drive back home on Friday afternoon. I did this for two years. It was worth it because I knew the value in this job, and it was all part of my journey. In 2016 I found myself needing to be more grounded in one place. I left my job in Long Beach and accepted a job in San Diego, at Revive Med Spa! I was so fortunate to bring the knowledge I had of current treatments, and get the opportunity to grow and flourish in my craft of injectable treatments (Botox, fillers, etc.), laser treatments, PDO thread lifts, and skincare. I’m filled with gratitude to have career that allows me to be creative and help others feel good.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite things to do in San Diego are walking the Birdrock bike path, enjoying delicious coffee at the best coffee shop, Java Earth, wandering around Balboa Park, or exploring the tide pools in La Jolla. If my best friend was visiting we’d definitely grab dinner at Enoteca Adriano, or Luce Bar & Kitchen, or even just sit at the Catamaran on Mission bay and enjoy some wine!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a huge shout out to my parents, who always supported me in whatever I wanted to do. They instilled in me compassion, generosity, and a strong work ethic. I’d also like to give credit to my amazing fiancé Albert, who keeps me sane, and motivates me to be my best self. And lastly, my EXTRA special French Bulldogs, Winston and Bodhi, who bring me pure joy and keep me laughing everyday!
