We had the good fortune of connecting with Pavithra and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pavithra, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I came out of school with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and worked as an audit assistant. I moved to San Diego, California, to join my husband and a pursued certificate in accounting at San Diego State University, which opened up several opportunities to make my way into the Big 4 accounting firms as a CPA. But I was not excited to attend a desk job.
Since childhood, I have always loved to cook different cuisines and learned many traditional recipes and cooking techniques from my grandmother. I always dreamt of owning a bakery & sweet shop in my hometown. But as I grew up, when coursework became heavy, I spent less time cooking and started missing the fun I had.
I felt my hidden passion for doing something more on my own and unleashing my creativity in cooking and baking. So to pursue my goal, I started Pavi’s Kitchen website in 2019 where It helped me share my recipes to the world.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started from scratch without much knowledge about blogging and Web designing. I had immense passion for cooking and baking. I’m a vegetarian by diet; hence, my food blog has a lot of vegetarian and vegan recipes that would be easy to make. I focus more on healthy and nutritious recipes. I get good responses for my salad recipes.
So far, I have published 100 plus recipes, and some of them got published in digital magazines. I also get many emails from the readers saying they have tried my recipes that turn out delicious. Those lovely compliments make my day which keeps me motivated to publish more wholesome recipes on Pavi’s Kitchen.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
California is a beautiful place, and when it comes to San Diego, the first thing that would come to my mind is the stunning coastline and beaches.
My favorite beaches in San Diego are Torrey pines state beach, La Jolla Cove, Windansea in La Jolla, Laguna Beach, Solana Beach, Coronado Island, Point Loma Cabrillo national monument, Old town San Diego, and nightlife in Gaslamp Quarter and Little Italy. Some of the hiking trails are Iron mountain, Elfin forest, and Torrey pines state reserve. My favorite restaurants are Green door cafe in La Jolla, Ramona’s restaurant in Julian. Edelweiss Bakery and Extraordinary Desserts.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank my father-in-law, who was also my ex-boss, where I started my first job as an audit assistant. He encouraged me to pursue my passion instead of the Accounting career.
