Meet Oscar Riveros | Digital Strategist. Filmmaker & Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Oscar Riveros and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Oscar, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
We always seek safety and comfort, it is instinct. But risk is what really makes us grow – purpose is it’s fuel.
In my life, it has always been a fine balance. A back and forth between safety. comfort and risk. Such is the time when I wanted to open my own business, again (for the 3rd time, after 2 failures). There was this hunger deep inside me; nagging at me. I was about to take the leap over the cliff, my entrepreneur wings ready for flight; fueled by motivation and coffee. Suddenly, we received news that our daughter required heart surgery. It stop me dead in my tracks. I couldn’t take the risk – what if I didn’t have enough for the surgery, the insurance, the medical bills. So I decided it was necessary – I needed to go back to safety and security. My daughter (thank God) had a successful surgery and recovery. In the process I was able to find stable work, study, train Boxing, and pick up new skills for these new world challenges. I picked up a renewed purpose which enabled me to try and take the risk one more time.
We are always assessing and questioning risk whether due to the fear of being ridiculed, insecurities of being not good enough, or the pure loss of love. However, the purpose is always bigger than the risk…bigger than fear. And that is where courage comes in; it’s that little spark after you take a deep breath, right before you take the leap.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I founded Lead Wolf inspired by the old Cherokee story: There are 2 Wolves inside of us, Fear & Courage. I started filming people’s stories as an inspirational hobby, their moments of fear, and how they overcame with courage.
Before I started Lead Wolf, I still had a corporate job,I honed my skills, and started mixing creativity and analytics. With the support of my wife, I gathered the courage to launch Lead Wolf as full time,
I believe a company is more than a pretty logo, fancy websites, silly slogans & logical value propositions. I believe in a company’s soul that speaks to the audience and creates an experience. An organization’s true purpose is more than just making money (that’s a consequence), it’s about making a positive impact on people’s life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Great days start with great coffee, and one of my favorites is my neighborhood Bird Rock Coffee Roasters in Birdrock. Ca., go photograph some surf at the many parks around the area.
Head on for an amazing breakfast at Parakeet Cafe in downtown La Jolla, Their Egg Sandwich is the G.O.A.T. walk it off by heading to Ellan Brown Scripps Park, where the Sea Lions are, and the hidden Cave. Everything in this area is photo material.
Grab a quick lunch at Coffee Cup, everything is good, can’t miss it. By then, you’re probably gonna need a Natural Gelato from Bobboi, hurry it’s not too busy around noon. And take some home too, it’s amazing.
Head on to Torrey Pines, go up to the cliffs, there’s a dirt path where you can park and watch the Gliders take off, beautiful view of La Jolla Cove, look down at your own risk, it’s a nude beach down there.
Now hurry to watch the sunset in the picture famous: Windnsea beach, by the legendary palapa, gaze in awe as the sun sets in the Pacific.
Dinner time! Feeling like staying in? Order the best pizza in town: Mr. Moto Pizza! or feel like going out for some beers and chill? Go to Wheat and Water, great ambiance, service, and beer!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To the strong women in my life, I wouldn’t be the man I am today (and to be) without my wife Eve. To my daughter, Gala, who motivates me to strive to be a good role model each day. To my mother Malvina, her values and love lives through me in everything I do.
To my sister and brothers, especially Felipe, who introduced me to music, film, and videos; putting me through school and feeding me during the hard times,
