Meet Nuzhat Hussain | Microbiologist / Leader – Training and Development

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nuzhat Hussain and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nuzhat, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from Pakistan but spent most of my early childhood years in Dubai. When I was in eight grade, my dad had a massive heart attack while on a business trip to Pakistan. We were fortunate that he was at a hospital working on design configuration for an operating room and received timely medical attention that saved his life. Due to this incident, we had to relocate back to Pakistan. I still remember it being the toughest time for us as a family but it was my mom’s strength and the family support that pulled us through. It is not what happens to you, but what you do about it that makes the difference in how things work out for you. As part of growing up, we develop certain attributes through observation and some through our parents. They have taught me invaluable life lessons. The ultimate victory is derived from inner satisfaction of knowing who you are and to always challenge yourself not be better than others but from who you were yesterday. Winning is important to me but it is more about seeing results of the hard work I put in whatever I’m working on. My undergraduate degree is in Microbiology. In 2017, I went back to school and completed a graduate degree in Education, MAED/AET. I participated in Toastmasters and served as the Vice President of Education. I have been on the Education Board for High Schools. Currently, I am working for a Biomed firm as a global training and development process owner. I have also been part of recreation committee to host work events. I have social media platform, “StylebyNuz,” where I share my lifestyle, trends and products that I liked. I am also working on my own skincare line launch, hoping to release by end of this year.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I consider my self as a life-long learner. If I had a choice I would always be in school. It gives me a sense of accomplishment, a feeling of progress and a positive step forward. My dream was to go to medical school to help others lead healthier lifestyles that can promote quality of life and longevity. However, that did not happen. After I completed my undergraduate degree in Microbiology, I got got married and moved to US. After I had kids, my focus and priorities had changed but it didn’t change my objectives that I wanted to achieve. Yes, it delayed it but it was all worth it. If you want to succeed, you need to set attainable goals otherwise you lose focus and direction. I stayed home with my kids until they were ready for Kindergarten. Before I went back to school, I wanted to work to be sure if my goals needed to be changed due to my new priorities. I worked part time until my kids were young. I did not want to compromise the time I need to raise them and wanted to be available for them as my parents were whenever I needed them. It took me 16 years to go back to school and complete a graduate degree in Education, MAED/AET. It was hard since I was working, a mom of two boys and attending a full time graduate program but what kept me going is the reaching the goal. I always set short term goals, what do I want to be in the next 5 years. Currently, I am a global process leader for training and development, I have a social media platform, “StylebyNuz” and I am working on launching my skincare line.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would book a five day trip to Cancun at an all inclusive resort. Vacation is for me is about quality food and relaxation. Cancun is one of my favorite places to visit. I would schedule spa appointments, where we would want to eat each of the days. I would schedule the excursions. The best and safest place for excursions is the Xplorer. They have activities for all ages that includes zip lining, river rafting, parasailing, etc. Laying on the beach during the day and beach parties at night. Next stop would be two days in Las Vegas. I would book a Cirque du Soleil show for the night and taking the tram to hotel hop during the day. Bacchanal Buffet and Hell’s Kitchen would be for sure two places to eat.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
For sure, I am thankful for the organization I am currently working for. Despite the part time status I had a few years ago, they provided partial reimbursement for my graduate degree tuition which they only offered to full time employees. I am thankful for the family and fortunate to have a great circle of supportive friends. Last but no least thankful for the instagram followers that support the page. Most importantly, I am so fortunate to have my husband’s support in all decisions and choices that I have made.
