We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikole Mathews and Emily Ober and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nikole Mathews and, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We have been in the childcare industry here in San Diego since we were both 16 years old. Since we have been babysitting and nannying for local families for many years, we created a community of people that knew us and wanted to use us their child care needs. As we began to get busier in our everyday lives and careers, we did not have the time to offer our services to the many requests we received.
We knew there was a need here as people trusted us to care for their children and also trusted anyone we referred there way. After several monthly requests for families needing care in our current community, we knew that there was a need and we can be the ones to help! We can assist these local families find the perfect nannies and babysitters!
What should our readers know about your business?
We believe what sets us apart from others is the fact that we remain a resource for both our Nannies and families, even past the point of recruitment. We understand that the jobs we are placing recruits for can feel isolating, as they don’t have co-workers; our caregivers need support beyond being placed with a family, and we strive to be that pillar for them. Whether they just need a question answered, advice, or support we are always there to lend an ear. Same goes for our clients- We are always here to provide guidance. Bloom Care is more than just an employment agency, it’s a community.
Figuring out the ins and outs and on how to run our business was a learning curve, but fortunately didn’t take long for us to get the hang of. Once we got our feet wet, things just seemed to flow. We feel very fortunate to be in the position we’re in.
We are a mindful, modern and versatile childcare resource serving all of Southern California.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We are both San Diego natives so the list could go on and on! Paddle boats on the harbor, the San Diego Zoo, Balboa Parks beautiful gardens and fantastic museums, nights in Little Italy where we would dine at Ironside or Barbusa, Seal Cove in La Jolla and Brunch at Cody’s. The beach is an obligatory trip as well! Walking around Sunset Cliffs and then heading to Newport Ave. to eat tacos at South Beach and watch the Sunset. We are so lucky in San Diego because we are also so close to the mountains. A hike in the Laguna’s or day trip to Julian is always a great idea!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We want to dedicate this to our families and our community, mainly in La Mesa, as they have been a huge support and an integral part in our growth around San Diego. A big part of our business comes from word of mouth and we are so grateful for the ones who have spread the word about our services!
