We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicci Julian and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicci, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Balance overall is a very significant factor in my personal and professional life.

I recently read a book by Bethenny Frankel, titled, ‘Business is Personal’.. I also published a baking book in 2022 titled, ‘Confectious Baking Balanced”.
Balance is a huge key in success whether it relates to your business or home life.

I started my baking career in 2014 after my mother passed from Glioblastoma cancer. However, my passion started when I was five years old. I ran with my passion, attended culinary school and business school shortly after.

I have always led a very busy personal life, with travel and close friends. But, I have always incorporated my business into my personal life…In other words, I have allowed personal influences to persuade my business and vise versa.

My business also thrives on social media, so incorporating both with a balance and boundaries is actually very essential for my business success. Depending on your brand, sometimes you need to be open and share your life with your clients/viewers.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Confectious Pastry Shop is an online, full service, one stop, pastry shop. I structured the name as, “Pastry Shop” because “Confectious” was already taken as a business entity.

While thinking about the name, I decided I did not want a heavy store front overhead. Therefore, I started an online pastry shop that is interactive, creative, and fun to view. I am on Facebook, Instagram, and Google.

We create all creatively custom cakes, cookies, desserts, gluten free, and vegan items for all special events, offices, corporate gatherings, and weddings. We deliver all over Southern Ca and Austin, Texas.

I have recently expanded to Austin, Texas and am present in Southern California.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For the Week:

All the yummy spots….Starfish Laguna, Giana’s Provision, Bear Flag, Hotel Laguna, Javiers for the experience haha, Shake Shack on the coast, shopping at Fashion Island, duffy and yacht rides in Newport Harbor, beach walks along Salt Creek beach, Bar hall in Laguna Beach.
Grit Cycle rides on the weekends.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother, Vallie will always be a huge shout out for my success. Success is different for each person, but my personal success (meaning emotional awareness) has led into my business. I am the way I am because of her illness and passing.

My father, Len has always supported my passion, and allowed me the tools to create my vision. He always stepped back and let me do what I needed and wanted.

Also, Food Network Stars, Ina Garten and Giada DeLaurentis are huge influencers of my passion for baking at a young age. I would watch their cooking shoes instead of cartoons. I still find myself binge watching old seasons.

My current and past clients deserve a great amount of appreciation and gratitude. They helped me grow, survive, and stay in business.

lastly, my fiancé and his digital marketing company has supported me emotionally and financially with my online website. Confectious is a online, one stop, full service, pastry shop
