We had the good fortune of connecting with Kailynn Bowling & Nikki Carlson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kailynn Bowling & Nikki Carlson, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important success factor behind our business is how we developed our own brand from our living room and turned it into a multi-million dollar brand and household name. Other brands were coming to us asking, “How’d you get into retail stores, how’d you get into all of these magazines?” So, we started ChicExecs to help these companies. We took that recipe for success and used it as an outline and platform for our agency ChicExecs which manages 200+ brand strategies on a day-to-day basis. Helping other brands grow is our passion and purpose.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets us apart from other agencies is that we actually developed a brand and products of our own. To this day, we use our same out-of-the-box thinking to develop strategies for brands to help them stand apart from others in the marketplace. We are entrepreneurs with a background in product development. In addition, our agency was built on the backbone that our employees are entrepreneurs. Unlike entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs are employed at a business, but they bring many entrepreneurial qualities to their work. We encourage new ideas and we develop them to be their own thinkers by giving them a growing space of creativity within the ChicExecs doors. It’s a think tank business with the employees at the helm. We are building the next generation of thinkers- how can we do something better, unique and forecasting change in marketing.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
San Diego is beautiful- where else can you have 70-degree weather all year long? Amazing. My favorite place to take people would be San Diego Zoo Safari Park because I’m a huge fan of the outdoors and animals. Julian is a great spot for some apple pie and wine tasting. I also recommend hiking or horseback riding in Ramona – there is beautiful riding there. Then maybe a stop back down by Bonsall for avocados fresh from the top growers. Nature at its finest!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
“Google.” Honestly, back when we started there was not a huge social media platform to get ideas or encouragement. We had to “google” anything and everything. We were determined to think out-of-the-box and figure it out. We created our own strategies based on our natural needs to shop for our families. Women are the main purchasers of the household so we put together strategies based on how we shopped, how we wanted to be talked to in the media, and the products we wanted to be developed. We now do that for other brands too.
