We had the good fortune of connecting with Nathan Hockstra and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nathan, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
Go to school, get a good job, obey the man, move up the ladder and retire one day. I never finished school, I had a corporate job, made good money and could have made more but I felt it was sucking my soul. I needed to feel fulfilled in my life and spending that much time in a job I hated didn’t allow me to do it.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My online business is called Ditch the Game and it’s a coaching format that helps guys find a meaningful relationship without using any pick up or game playing. I think the thing I’m most proud of is that I’ve been able to help countless men improve their dating lives but more than that many of them have found their lifelong partners in fulfilling relationships and gone on to marry and have children. It hasn’t been and still is not easy. I am constantly learning and growing. The idea that owning a business can be like being on a rollercoaster ride has been my experience thus far. The biggest challenge to overcome has been me. My own doubts, fears and insecurities about whether I can be successful. I think what I’d like the world to know is that I’m for real. I believe there are a lot of charlatans out there who really don’t care about their clients that much or don’t even have the result themselves that they are promising their clients. I can honestly say I’ve been down the road my clients are on, I have succeeded myself and helped countless others do the same. I care about my clients and I think they agree on that as well.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I usually take them to the beach, surfing (if they’ve never been), my wife and I’s favorite restaurants, on a Torrey Pines hike and maybe sneak in a round of golf if they play.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My dad was my first inspiration in that he owned his business and was able to making a TON of money, do what he wanted whenever he wanted. I later found Tony Robbins who brought the idea of peak performance and living with meaning in my life. My most current mentors come from a group called Clients on Demand who have taught me how to build an online coaching business and succeed at it.
