We had the good fortune of connecting with Montse Baraldés and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Montse, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Over time, we’ve come to see balance as a continuous exchange between inspiration and creation. Ceramics MIM is deeply inspired by Mallorca—its landscape, its light, and the local way of life—and that connection to place helps kees us grounded. The island’s natural beauty and slower pace have influenced both our personal life and our creative process, encouraging a rhythm that feels organic. Balance for us isn’t so much about separating work from life but about allowing each to enrich the other, staying attuned to both our creative drive and the need to recharge.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We feel incredibly grateful for our clients, who come from diverse backgrounds yet share a deep awareness and appreciation for life’s details. They value unique, hand-crafted pieces that bring beauty and a sense of presence to their daily routines. Whether it’s a simple mug, a vase, or a custom dinner set, our clients embrace the idea that these pieces are more than objects—they bring intention and art into everyday life.

What sets us apart is our approach to creating ceramics that are deeply influenced by the natural surroundings of Mallorca. The island’s colors, textures, and serenity find their way into each piece, making every creation a reflection of its environment. This connection to place and purpose is something we cherish and that resonates with our clients.

The journey to this point hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge has taught us valuable lessons. The path required dedication, openness to learning, and adapting to the intricacies of ceramics as an art form. We’ve learned that patience and attention to detail are essential—not only in our craft but in growing a brand that truly resonates.

Our pieces are made with intention, inspired by nature, and crafted for those who appreciate a deeper connection to the things that surround them. We’re excited to continue evolving and creating pieces that bring joy and meaning to people’s lives.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting Mallorca, I’d craft a week-long itinerary filled with experiences that capture the island’s rich culture, breathtaking landscapes, and unique charm.
We’d start by exploring Palma, wandering through the Old Town’s winding streets and admiring La Seu, Palma’s stunning Gothic cathedral. Then, we’d stroll through the Mercat de l’Olivar, savoring fresh seafood, tapas, and local produce.
A visit to the Joan Miró Museum would be next, allowing us to dive into the world of one of Mallorca’s most celebrated artists.
A road trip through the Tramuntana mountains would be next, stopping at scenic viewpoints and villages like Deià and Valldemossa. We’d end the day with a sunset view along the cliffs, soaking in the golden light.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a heartfelt thanks to the incredible professors who have guided me since the beginning of my Fine Arts studies. Teachers like Hernández Pijuan and Jaume Plensa were pivotal in shaping my artistic vision and grounding me in the power of creative expression. Additionally, working together with my daughter, Alba, has been a wonderful experience. Our shared passion for ceramics has allowed us to build this project together, drawing inspiration from our travels and studies across Mexico, Japan, India, and Spain. Each place has taught us something unique about the art of ceramics, adding depth and meaning to our work. I am profoundly grateful to each of these teachers, places, and people for inspiring and shaping our journey.
