We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica Friedrichs and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monica, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m originally from Santa Barbara, but l’ve been in San Diego long enough for it to feel like home. Growing up, my family prioritized hospitality and gathering people together, which shaped my love for creating shared experiences. The beauty of both cities inspires my work-whether it’s the laid-back vibes or the stunning natural landscapes, it’s all about finding joy in the little things and creating spaces where people can connect.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m all about creating graze tables that bring people together. What sets Pallet to Palate apart is the personalized touch-each table is custom-tailored to the client, from the ingredients, flowers, color scheme, and locations. I love seeing people relax, enjoy good food, and connect with those around them. The journey hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge has helped me refine my vision and make the experience better for my clients.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting for a week, we’d start with a hike at Torrey Pines, grab coffee at Bird Rock, and watch the sunset at Sunset Cliffs with burritos in hand. We’d explore Coronado, bike around the island, and grab lunch at The Henry. A day in Del Mar would include a beach visit, dinner at the Sky Deck, and ice cream from Handel’s. Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo would take up another day. We’d walk around La Jolla and eat fish tacos at Bluewater Grill in OB. We’d end the week exploring North Park, brunching at Morning Glory, and enjoying the shops and breweries for a laid-back finish to the trip!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to give a big shoutout to my husband, friends and family who’ve been my biggest supporters. Their belief in me has kept me going through every challenge. And of course, my clients- each event I create for them pushes me to keep growing and refining my craft. Without their trust, Pallet to Palate wouldn’t be where it is today.
