We had the good fortune of connecting with Missy Marlaire and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Missy, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
The term risk is defined as “a situation involving exposure to danger.” Personally, I treat risk as a personal Return on Investment (ROI) strategy. I believe taking leaps of faith a.k.a. risks, are based on three main factors: expectation, process of that specific expectation and intended outcome. Risk taking has been one of the main drivers in my success, not only within my various business ventures but also in my personal decisions. I base my intended ROI decisions on love of the experience, the type of business demographic, time management, and potential financial earnings. Risks and taking leaps of faith, can have amazing outcomes if planned and executed patiently.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My love of photography has always been a passion of mine since I was a young child. I believe photography captures moments and experiences which create memories in time that will never be experienced again. I began my photographing journey learning the techniques of the camera while attending Point Loma Nazarene University. Learning the effects of editing and camera composition immediately struck my interest. Photo composition is defined on how a photographer arranges their visual elements within their frame. Perfecting the perfect shot became a new learning experience for me, and became a personal business goal very quickly. After learning various photography techniques and subjects, and becoming familiar with business marketing, I ended up creating my own business – Missy Marlaire Photography.
Throughout my time of having my own business, I have learned that photography can be expressed in various artistic ways. You can experiment with various editing and lighting techniques. This allows total freedom for the artist and the artistic expression intended to be conveyed. That is what I love about the art of the camera, it is completely changeable and can be expressed individually based on the type of photoshoot. The versatility and freedom of Missy Marlaire Photography is the key expectation of my brand.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
San Diego is one of the most if not, the most exciting and versatile city. The never ending downtown events, numerous coastal beaches and ocean harbor landscapes attracts every type of tourist. If I was given the opportunity to show my best friend the time of their life here in San Diego, I would immediately recommend spending the day walking around Sea Port Village. It has a variety of boutique shopping, restaurant lounging and gorgeous city attractions. Sea Port Village over looks the Coronado Bridge and can be a very relaxing experience. The second location I would highly recommend in San Diego would be Ocean Beach and Sunset Cliffs. Having a mixture of a laid back environment, shops and the various rooftop bars and restaurants overlooking the Ocean Beach pier, creates the complete Southern California feel. Ocean Beach is known for it’s hipster type of demographic and amazing ocean views. I believe hanging out and visiting these two main areas would be a perfect way to experience what San Diego has to offer.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank all of my family, friends and photography clients who have supported me throughout all of my business success!
