We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Cordero and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I became an esthetician I knew I wanted to try a little of everything. So when I was offered a job to do lashes, I took the opportunity. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it but the instant gratification of my clients change was amazing! After two hours we were both able to see the difference the lashes made. Working from a salon was a great experience to gain my speed and practice more on an endless amount of clientele. But once I realized you can be your own boss and make more money by not having to share profit with a salon owner or work a commission based job, I started my journey to have my own business!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I went to traditional college after high school. My major was nutrition, I graduated and got a hospital job. My family was proud and I was happy to be young and making good money. But after a few years I just didn’t feel inspired and I wanted a change. I’ve always felt different and creative. Most of my peers majored in nursing or business and I just felt like we were just doing because we thought that was what was right. I was always obsessed with skincare so I was researching careers and decided I would become an Esthetician! Now, today I feel like I’m not even working! I create art on my clients faces! I feel more like my self and feel inspired everyday! Trust your gut and take risk is how I live my life now!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love great views so I would recommend Sunset Cliffs for a little relaxing moment. Balboa park is so fun to walk around and check out different museums. Definitely the beaches! Pacific beach or mission beach are great to go lay out and people watch. Kate sessions park is such a fun place to have a picnic and see the city from above! And lastly old town is my favorite place for lunch or dinner!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Mariah and Britney are my esthetician best friends that encouraged me to go on my own and work for myself even when I was scared to take the risk!
