We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Tuvey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am most proud of still standing and pivoting with the times! The tools and resources available when I began in 2003 simply weren’t there. It was a lot of trial and error, getting feedback and leaning in to a LOT of hard work. Some of my mistakes I had to repeat multiple times until I learned different aspects of the business. I am always wanting to learn and improve my craft, and is something I work on daily.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
La Jolla Gilderport. Great for kids, families and an even better place to picnic with wine! It is such a unique vantage point in the city, and I love showcasing La Jolla! I’d then pop down the street for a margarita and spa day at Estancia La Jolla, and then end the day with drinks at La Valencia…

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My son Bennett. He was the original inspiration for me to start my business, giving me lots of flexibility. From a very very young age, he began helping with the business. Now that he’s a teenager, we’re talking about profits, gross income, liability insurance…. you name it. I did not come from a home of entrepreneurs, so I’m thrilled to be giving him tools if he chooses this path as well.
