We had the good fortune of connecting with Maurice Levardo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maurice, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Although uncertainty can attract a certain fear, I do believe it has also become the most empowering motivation in my search for growth. I’ve meandered from one city to another, acclimating towards unfamiliar climates, introducing my craft to new communities with respect and kindness. Through innocent curiosity, I observe every interaction as a humbling opportunity to learn. To listen closely. To celebrate the nuances of personal transformation. To share stories unapologetically. This is what I want my voice, The Naïve Journal, to illustrate and embody. Risks involves valor. The capacity to embrace trials and tribulations. Sure, we can expect the unexpected, though I’d rather welcome the unexpected with excitement. I honor my narrative with the priority of my own judgment – freeing my insecurities by focusing on my own comfort.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The curation of my visual journal has evolved with the interactions I’ve become a part of, the folks I cross paths with and the internal growth I frame with patience and virtue. I believe we all possess the receptivity to keep learning. it’s a circadian cycle. I often tell myself, “you are beautifully Naïve,” finding myself in a perpetual state of deep excitement at the chance to learn more about what makes me, me.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I send all of my gratitude to my friends and loved ones, whom have unconditionally shared their immeasurable support with me and this lovely project. Most importantly, I cannot thank the artists and writers enough; this community we have created together has fruited into a beautiful space where we can all proclaim our anecdotes in harmony. The principles I learn through the columnists and their philosophies have left me with intense clarity. It is truly a humbling moment to share the stories of our Naïve members. There is something so beautifully therapeutic about giving light to these scriptures.
