Meet Matteo Tibiletti | Actor, writer, filmmaker, acting coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Matteo Tibiletti and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matteo, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Well, I think many things brought me where I’m now. I had many different jobs in my life, but none of them ever make my happy and satisfy! And I was so afraid to make some mistake or fail, that I lost much time just thinking to what I’d like to be. But then one day, after I met my wife, she encourage me to do what I was really born to do: art.
I’ve always been a real cinema lover and my dreams have been all pointed on being an actor and a director in that world.
I started my buisness just stopping having fear. Trying with all my power to do something I really love and that make me feel real good!
I think that fear is the weakness point of many people…this, often doesn’t allow us to be the better part of ourself!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As I told you before, I am now where I want to be, just because I stopped having fear of every change. Sometimes I have it still…but it’s different from the past. Anyway…I think I get where I am because I’ve always got this wish to see my point of view pojected on a screen. My opinion and my ideas concretized in a movie…but, making a movie is very expansive! So I tried with Theatre…and you know what? Everything became more easy! I mean, my love for movies and for cinema is still the same (and when it’s possibile, it calls me back), but on the stage there’s something different: you can play with audience…like you’re a child. It’s like you’re telling them: ” imagine that what you’re looking at is different from what you really see”. Theatre invite people to work with their own imagination! Cinema doesn’t allow this. Not at the same way. Cinema offer a different point of view…you want to belive not just to what you hear, but also what you watching. So…I started writing for stage…trying to bring there the magic I used to feel in the darkness, sitting in a cinema, watching a movie…so I wrote intense and thigt dialogues…I chose particular soundtracks, mixed up comedy and drama in the same show. I wanted to hear audience laugh and then, 10 seconds later, cry because something unexpected was happeing!
I wrote many plays, dramas and monologues. Some of those won prizes and mention; others has been performed by other teathrical companies in Italy.
My path took me now to teach what I learned to kids, teenager and adults, during acting courses I hold with my wife. It’s fantastic to see how much the art makes fell better you and the people who sourrounded you.
Parrallel to this, there’s “Girodivite productions” that allows me, from time to tiem, to write, direct, produce or play very good shortmovies. One of these, a one minute mobilephone shortmovie titled “Yes, No”, brought me a lot of luck! With this little movie in 2018 I won an award at Mobile Film Festival in Paris as “best screenplay” and a 3000€ grant; then the movie went around the world and won in Barcelona, in Whashington, San Diego…til the last…in El Segundo, where I’m right now. The ESMoA film festival infact reserved me another fantastic grant…and this time the award was 2 months of award residency in California, where, til now, I had the pleasure to know Mr Rick Carter (art director and two time Academy award) and his very close friend, mr Robert Zemeckis.
In conclusion, the most important thing I’ve learned during these years is that even if you don’t like tv and advertise…or if you hate trash shows and tabloids…they are there to teach you that in every gone wrong ideas, in each bad taste example…there’s something you can learn from and use it to create something better, maybe new and…who knows, more elegant and unforgettable!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would bring him to have a good dinner! I love going to restaurant, having good food and drink some excellent wine (I’m Italian and where I live, we have many places where you can eat excellent with chip prices). Otherwise if he come to visit me right now, in El Segundo, I would suggest him to rent a good car and do what I already did with my collegues last week! I would take him around to visit L.A., San Diego and…of course, the Death Valley (I’ve been there for the second time in my life and…it’s absolutely my favourite place in all the world).
After Chirstmas, with my wife, we’ll go to visit Monument Valley. I think we’ll adore it (yes, I like desert place, silence, peace and quite)

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Very good question! Thank you! Because I always like to share my goal with the people who allow me or help me to get them! Well, first of all, my wife! Emanuela is my partner in life and on the stage (she’s an actress and a teacher too…we fell in love right on the stage, 12 years ago!). She help me to open Pandora’s box and find out all the negativity I have accumulated over time.

First of all, without any clue, my wife! Emanuela is my partner in life and on the stage (she’s an actress and a teacher as far as I am…we fell in love right on the stage, 12 years ago!). She helped me to open Pandora’s box and find out all the negativity I have accumulated over time. She allowed me to get over it and become what I am today: a man proud of its work and the world he has created around him.
Then comes my friends who cooperated actively to 80% of my recent works. I’m talking about “Girodivite Productions”, founded in 2017 as a teathrical company but then transformed in movie production. With Federico, Fabrizio, Ilaria, Lia, Ginevra and many other friends and professionals who I met during last years and who really belived in my skills, I saw raising my success. I owe a lot to all of them.
