We had the good fortune of connecting with Maryann Roberts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maryann, what is the most important factor behind your success?
As a matchmaker I am a cheerleader for my clients during our journey together to find their partner. I have so much respect for my clients as I see them move away from old patterns and be able to let go and to be open to meeting the matches I choose for them. I really understand the investment they are making of their emotions, their heart and their money and I feel honored that they trust me with this important step they are taking.
My success comes from meeting every person where they are right at this moment. There is a reason why they have chosen this particular time to work with a matchmaker. I learn about their unique motivating factors and what has been holding them back from finding their person. I give them hope to be able to find love and connection.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a professional matchmaker at Three Day Rule; a nationwide matchmaking company. People I meet are curious about my profession and ask how does one get started in the business?
We all bring a skill set from our previous careers and mainly from our own life experiences.
If you have found yourself matchmaking for your family and friends throughout your life; you already possess some of the key tools to becoming a professional matchmaker.
Matchmakers are natural connectors possessing both great interviewing and listening skills. We love to talk about relationships and we are curious about what makes one successful and another fail. We have an innate belief that there is a match for everyone and we are able to stay positive for our clients and keep the faith even when they may grow tired of dating.
The matchmaker/ client relationship is an emotional journey. for both. Clients will be vulnerable and share very personal information about themselves and their relationship goals. Trusting your matchmaker is essential to your success together. I have learned the importance of establishing rapport with clients from the first conversation and having mutual faith in one another makes for a successful outcome.
Matchmaking can be challenging if a client has a “shopping list” of his or her preferences that are very limiting. Matchmakers will work with a client to keep expanding preferences and to become more open to seeing how love can happen with someone they would not traditionally choose for themself.
Matchmaking packages start at $5900 and I am so proud of the service our clients receive. We also invite amazing singles in San Diego and in our major cities to join our free dating pool and have the opportunity to be matched to a client. at no cost.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A day on Coronado at the beach and catching dinner and sunset at The Hotel Del are high on my list. Visiting the rose garden at Balboa Park and taking a moment to smell the different fragrant varieties is my favorite part of my visit there. Seeing the redwoods is also amazing when we live near the beach. I may have dinner at The Prado or walk a few blocks to Mister A’s to see a city view from their outdoor patio.
Renting Kayaks at Everyday California is great for a day of fun at La Jolla Shores
The surf lessons at Surf Diva are a favorite too!
SUP rentals from Mission Bay Aquatics is an easy way to get into the water for those who are a little timid around the ocean waves.
Head over to La Valencia to dine on the patio. It is such a beautiful place to celebrate any special occasion and you can now purchase a day pass to relax and enjoy the pool.
Going to a Padres game at Petco Park is fun for everyone and it such a beautiful space.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Talia Goldstein
Founder & President, Three Day Rule Matchmaking
Talia Goldstein was a TV producer at E! Entertainment. She left her job to host dating events for singles. The parties attending her events grew, so in 2013 she founded the tech-enabled matchmaking company Three Day Rule.[1][2] The name for the company comes from the film Swingers, in which characters waited three days to call a girl after meeting.[
She has been featured on various news outlets from Good Morning America to CNN. Leveraging her extensive network of incredible singles, Talia has found matches for hundreds of clients, including top executives, entrepreneurs, and celebrities.
I am so lucky to be working with Talia as part of her matchmaking team. Her mentorship and encouragement really inspires me. She is not only a great business woman but runs the company from her heart space.
On our weekly team calls she asks us to share our success stories with our clients seeing their matches multiple times and evolving into long term relationships and marriages. You can see the joy in her face and the happiness she feels for the clients.
I just love that she is so hands on when it comes to the matching process. I feel she must have a photogenic memory because she can recall the face and details about the singles she has met through the years. She will frequently pull a match from memory when discussing a client and suggest that I reach out to someone she thinks may click with them.
She has made Three Day Rule a really supportive work environment for women. She encourages us to have a good work/ life balance and to take time off to recharge.
