We had the good fortune of connecting with Marissa Chuises Delgado and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marissa, what do you attribute your success to?
Success can only come if you are true to yourself. I attribute the success of my business to being real. I am my brand and business and I show up everyday genuine and real for my clients and myself. My focus is to do good hair, connect with clients and go to work grateful to be able to share my art. I surround myself with clients who share the same values as me and it makes my business not only successful, but enjoyable. The importance of being true to yourself is what I believe cultivates the clients and the business that you want and the success comes second hand.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is dependent on the canvass. I create Lived in Hair Color that suits the needs of my clients. Lived in Hair Color is all about the new hair revolution: spending less time in the salon and more time doing things that we love.

I am so proud that clients come in and connect with the content I put out on social. I want to inform and be able to open dialogue about hair and products that most stylists maybe don’t have with their clients.

The journey was long to get where I am. I have been working on my business and my craft for over 10 years. Hard work and dedication absolutely pays off.

One of the lessons I have learned in my professional journey is: It’s ok to say NO. Just because I am in a service industry does not mean I am unable to chose things that bring me joy or serve me well or better. Sometimes I am not the right fit for someone, and that is ok. I stay true to myself, my passion and my work / life balance.

The Lived in Hair Color revolution is here to stay. This is not a fad, but a way of life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
San Diego is full of some of my favorite spots. When friends are here we usually catch a baseball game, walk balboa, hike Torrey Pines and eat at some of my fave places: Tribute Pizza (North Park), TRUST (University Heights), Fort Oak (Mission Hills) and The Brig (Del Mar) and BFD (University Heights).

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
You are who you surround yourself, right? Some of my closest friends are some of the most talented hair stylists in Southern California. We meet frequently and chat about the hair industry, color theory, business and all the things. I believe being surrounded by them has helped me become the successful hair stylist that I am today. They know who they are 🙂
