We had the good fortune of connecting with Marie Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I used to be such a people-pleaser. As such, I designed my first 3 decades around what would look good on paper and what would make others proud. I became a professional athlete, a journalist, then a pilot – none of which ever lit me up. In fact, I was miserable. I used to routinely binge eat and drink myself numb to escape my reality. Before I even considered quitting my aviation career, I happened to fall in love with baking and cooking – specifically plant-based food. There was something about the challenge of making meals without dairy, eggs or other animal products that ignited a passion I had never known. And in the process of making all this healthy food, I started feeling amazing physically and emotionally, which, in turn, gave me the confidence to pursue a different path. My path. I took a nutrition diploma and became a Registered Holistic Nutritionist. After a couple of years of seeing clients, I noticed that I would make recommendations, send them on their way, and my dear clients just wouldn’t put them into practice. That’s when I transitioned to being more of a coach – so that I can help clients not just with nutrition, but also with the mindset work and the lifestyle changes that have, seemingly, nothing to do with food, but are essential to a complete, joyful, and sustainable transformation. Now I help mostly moms put themselves first and get to their happy weight without yo-yo dieting!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate this shoutout to the food bloggers I followed many years ago, while I felt stuck in a soul-sucking career, who encouraged me to follow my dreams – whether they know it or not – specifically Angela Liddon from Oh She Glows, Danielle Walker from Against All Grain, and Aimee Wimbush-Bourque from Simple Bites 🙂
