We had the good fortune of connecting with Margarita Hanke and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Margarita, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
As a parent, one of the most important things I believe I’ve done is to nurture my children’s individuality while encouraging a sense of responsibility and compassion. I’ve always tried to be a role model by pursuing my own passions in art and music, showing them the value of following their own paths and staying true to themselves. At the same time, I’ve instilled in them the importance of kindness, resilience, and the strength to face challenges.

I’m deeply proud of the individuals they’re becoming, and I’m grateful that they are finding ways to express themselves meaningfully, whether it’s through their studies, music, or creative pursuits.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Thank you for the opportunity to share my artistic journey. My art is a reflection of the places and emotions that have shaped me, from my roots in Venezuela to my life in Germany. I blend cultural influences and natural elements, using vibrant colors and textures to evoke a sense of place, memory, and connection. I often think of my work as a tribute to my heritage and an exploration of home, which is why my recent exhibition is titled “Mi Hogar.”

What sets my art apart is the fusion of architectural structure with emotional expression. My background in architecture has influenced my approach to composition, giving my pieces a distinct, layered quality. Whether I’m painting a single rose or an intricate landscape, I aim to create a space for viewers to pause and connect with their own experiences and memories.

Getting here hasn’t always been easy. There were times when balancing my creative work with family responsibilities felt challenging, but my family’s support kept me going. Moving countries and establishing myself in a new artistic community was also daunting, but it pushed me to grow and adapt. Along the way, I’ve learned the importance of resilience and embracing change, letting each experience enrich my work.

For me, art is more than a career; it’s a lifelong journey of discovery. I hope that through my art, people can feel the beauty of diverse experiences and see how our roots and surroundings shape us.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting, I’d love to show them a mix of local charm, nature, art, and a bit of adventure. Here’s what our week might look like:

Day 1: Cham Town Exploration & Café Stop
We’d start with a cozy morning at a local café, like Café am Markt in Cham, where we could enjoy a delicious breakfast and some of the best coffee in town. Then, we’d stroll through the town center, checking out the charming buildings, and visiting local shops. In the evening, I’d take them to a traditional Bavarian restaurant for some authentic cuisine, like Gasthaus Zum Bäckerwirt, where they could experience hearty Bavarian dishes.

Day 2: Nature Day at the Bavarian Forest
We’d spend the day in the beautiful Bavarian Forest. We could hike along one of the scenic trails, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, and even spot some wildlife. For lunch, we’d picnic at a spot overlooking the forest’s breathtaking views. Later, we’d unwind at a cozy restaurant with some local beers or schnapps, celebrating the day’s adventures.

Day 3: Day Trip to Regensburg
We’d venture to Regensburg, a UNESCO World Heritage city known for its medieval architecture. We’d explore the stone bridge, the beautiful cathedral, and some art galleries. Lunch at the historic Wurstkuchl would be a must, where they’ve been serving sausages along the river for centuries! For dinner, we’d head to a modern spot like Storstad, where they could enjoy an upscale take on local cuisine with a stunning view of the city.

Day 4: Art and Culture in Munich
We’d take a day trip to Munich, starting with the Alte Pinakothek or Lenbachhaus Museum to soak in some art. Lunch could be at Viktualienmarkt, where we’d sample different Bavarian specialties and enjoy the lively atmosphere. In the afternoon, we’d explore the English Garden, maybe renting a paddle boat or watching the surfers on the river. Dinner at the Hofbräuhaus would give them a full Bavarian beer hall experience, complete with music and lively crowds.

Day 5: Spa Day at Bad Kötzting
After a few busy days, we’d relax at the thermal baths in Bad Kötzting. This spa town offers a mix of saunas, pools, and serene areas to unwind. We’d spend the day rejuvenating, enjoying massages, and simply relaxing in the peaceful environment. For dinner, we’d go to a quiet local restaurant for a calm evening meal.

Day 6: Visit to Schloss Miltach and Local Galleries
We’d visit Schloss Miltach or Altrandsberg, where I’ll be exhibiting my work next summer. It’s a lovely castle with its own charm, and I’d introduce them to my artwork there. We could also visit nearby galleries and meet some local artists. For lunch, we’d try a charming local spot, enjoying some seasonal dishes. The evening would be relaxed, maybe with a small gathering at home to share wine, good food, and stories.

Day 7: Farewell at Wasserschloss Loifling
For our last day, we’d visit Wasserschloss Loifling, where I’m currently exhibiting. This would be a chance for them to see my recent works up close and for me to share the inspiration behind each piece. We’d take a final walk through the picturesque surroundings and then enjoy a farewell dinner at a nearby restaurant, toasting to the week’s memories.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are several people and influences that deserve immense recognition in my journey. First and foremost, I have to thank my family—especially my sister Faride, who has been a source of unwavering support and inspiration. Her encouragement in both my creative and personal life has been a constant anchor.

I would especially like to thank my husband, Franz, and my children, who are the greatest support and inspiration in my life. Their encouragement and love have been a guiding force through every step of my journey. They are truly my foundation and my motivation to pursue my passions.

I’d also like to recognize my cello teacher, Ekaterina Shaynovich, whose mentorship has deeply enriched my journey as a musician. Her passion and discipline have not only enhanced my musical skills but also reminded me of the value of persistence and dedication.

Additionally, I owe gratitude to the vibrant communities I’ve been part of, from my early art experiences in Venezuela to the artistic and cultural circles I’ve joined here in Germany. Each has contributed to my growth as an artist, giving me new perspectives and inspiration.

Finally, I have to acknowledge all the teachers and mentors I’ve encountered over the years, as well as the supportive environment provided by my family. Their guidance has helped shape my values and my art, and I am truly grateful to each of them.
