We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcia Villavicencio and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marcia, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Since I was a little girl I was always pushed to take risks, I think this is why I continue to just take a leap of faith in the many things I do. I don’t always know if things are going to work out, but without trying I would never know, so I have to be willing to take the risk. Taking risks has landed me jobs I never thought I would have, it helped me continue to grow in my fitness journey, and it definitely pushed me to continue to pursue my dream of being an entrepreneur.
What should our readers know about your business?
I’ve always loved fitness, I started participating in long distance runs and 5k’s when I was just 13 years old. As an adult I became a fitness leader in the military, but I never thought about doing it as a “side hustle”, until I met a friend that pushed me to start my own personal training business … and this is how WE-B-FIT was born. It’s been 5 years since I started training clients, and since then, my business has changed and evolved, and continues to do so. Currently, I’m an online fitness and mindset coach, and run my business with the help of my wonderful wife, Brittany. She helps me in the business by giving my clients delicious “fit-meal” ideas; she used to be a chef, so this is her zone of genius! She is also really funny, so she makes our workshops and Live videos very fun.
At WE-B-FT, we focus on more than just the physical transformation of our clients, we also work on their mindset and promote body positivity and self-love. I teach my clients to love the journey into becoming the better version of themselves, and not to think of fitness as a destination. It is so rewarding when a client starts focusing on his/her/their progress in the gym, instead of on the number on the scale. I love it when they start feeling strong, and their confidence just soars! It is such an exciting moment!
Entrepreneurship is such a rollercoaster, and you have to be ok with the lows to enjoy the high moments. Fortunately, I am very resilient thanks to my upbringing and the military, so I don’t give up easily. It has been challenging at times, but I really love what I do, and my “Why” is what continues to push me forward. I’ve definitely learned to be flexible with the “how’s” of my business, and I’ve enjoyed learning that there’s more than one way to reach my goals. My brand’s mission and my “Why” is to teach other women that confidence is learned, strength comes from within, and that fitness doesn’t come in “one size fits all” … We are all unique and beautiful, and we can achieve anything we put our minds to… We just gotta be resilient and keep at it!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in SoCal so I would take them to the beach in La Jolla. There is so much to see there, you can go watch the seals, the caves, walk around and shop at the cute little stores. Then we would have lunch at one of the mom and pop restaurants. Then at night I would take them to the Gaslamp to have some fun downtown!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give a shoutout to my wifey, Brittany 🙂 She is my biggest supporter, my #1 fan. She’s the one who constantly pushes me to continue to pursue my dreams. I would also like to give a shoutout to all my past fitness coaches … So thankful for all their knowledge and accountability. I would also like to recognize Ms. Rachel Hollis, her books and podcast have inspired me to continue on this crazy entrepreneurship journey! She doesn’t know me lol but she is a huge inspiration! Finally, I want to give a shoutout to my little brother and sister, because I know they’re looking up to me, and this helps me to continue to push forward because I want them to know that everything is possible, you just have to continue to work for it.
