We had the good fortune of connecting with Maddie Alexander and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maddie, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Recently, I have found myself asking this question on a weekly basis. On one hand you want to keep going because you feel like you need to prove yourself. Prove that you can do it and you can do it by yourself. On the other hand it would be a lot easier to give up and do some thing else that requires less work. I have only been working for myself for a little over two years now, so I’m still growing and figuring things out. I choose to keep going because I genuinely enjoy when I do. I enjoy setting my own schedule. I enjoy meeting new people. I like the instant gratification that comes with my job. I keep going because this is some thing that I want for myself and although it’s hard at times, it’s worth it to see how far I’ve come.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
There are a lot of things that make me successful in my field of business. I am young, energetic, and personable. I genuinely enjoy what I do and have a passion for solving problems. My absolute favorite thing is, once done with the job, walking my client through exactly what I did and seeing their reaction. It amazes me how simple fixes can make such a big difference. I have learned, in only a short amount of time, that it means more to have face-to-face interactions with people and build those relationships as a person rather than just presenting yourself as a business. I know how stressful life can be and how overwhelmed a person can get from their daily burdens, but your house, your safe haven, should not be one of those things. Being able to provide a service that brings so much joy and relief is very warming to me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There is so much to do and so much to see in Southern California! If I were planning a trip for a friend that wasn’t from the area we would first start in Malibu and hike up at the Sandune‘s. Then make our way down to Leo’s tacos for some lunch. While down there might as well drive up to the Hollywood sign and visit the Getty museum. There’s also an abandoned zoo up there with some pretty fun walk-through enclosures. After that, visiting Lacma and just walking down downtown LA to see all the spots that are constantly in movies and TV shows is pretty neat. If you’re anywhere near Venice Beach you have to visit the Venice canals. Those bridges and houses are just too beautiful! If you’re in the mood for ice cream, salt and straw is a great representation of Southern California. They have funky flavors and lots of vegan options. Nightlife in Hollywood is pretty cool. The Laugh factory is always a solid bet. If you’re closer to Orange County, then you have to go to Laguna Beach. I’m convinced they are some of the most beautiful beaches in the US . There’s constantly live music on main street and lots of art galleries to explore. In Huntington there is a Thai Place Called St., Thai Café that has the best Thai food around, and trust me I’ve tried so many different places over the years. The great Park in Irvine is perfect for farmers markets as well as hot air balloon rides on the giant orange of Orange County. Downtown Orange has dancing on Thursdays in the town Square which is constantly surrounded by street vendors. If you have time and are interested for about $19 you can take the train down to San Clemente and if you’re lucky be on the train when the tide is high it’s pretty beautiful. Once in San Clemente, there are a ton of shopping opportunities as well as some of the best thrift stores. Rich people get rid of really nice things! There is so much to do and some of the best food in all of California, we are so lucky to live in such an amazing place!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Everyone, in someway or another, was affected by the pandemic. 2020 was a hard year for everyone. I was working as an event coordinator during this time and was laid off due to the lack of work. I became very depressed and questioned a lot of choices that I made. My boyfriend at the time was actually the person who got me out of my rut. Here recognized how organized and how happy I was when I was helping others and suggested that I become a home organizer. He is actually the person who set up my first interview with a different organizing company. He supported me through that and when I told him I think I wanted to start my own business the first thing he said to me was, “OK, how can I help?” I am thankful for him, because starting your own business is not easy.
