Meet Lyanne Alfaro | Creator and Host of Moneda Moves, Producer, Strategist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lyanne Alfaro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lyanne, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
Consistently aim for your target, but stay open to the new destinations life introduces for you.
For planners like myself, we love to have a roadmap, a game plan. But real life isn’t always so cut and dry. Learning to be adaptable and flexible where aligned growth opportunities exist is crucial to getting to your next best step. These will take you places you thought you’d never go, and introduce you to incredible communities to help you build.
Maintaining consistency while aiming at your target however, will help you better build a work ethic and values. When you know what matters to you, you are able to navigate the opportunities at hand and choose the ones best suited for your career or creative journey.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I tell stories about what’s next in the world of technology, business and entrepreneurship. With more than a $2.7 trillion GDP, I am especially passionate about exploring the Latino influence in the world of business, which I cover via newsletter, podcast and platform, Moneda Moves.
I am also an award-winning journalist, having reported in national outlets including CNBC, NBC Latino, Business Insider, Millie Magazine and worked on audience engagement as well as strategy. By day, I am supervising producer and social media content director at Nasdaq where I tell stories about the future of market technology and business.
Moneda Moves is my media platform which I’ve nurtured and grown especially in the last two years. My desire is to educate my listeners and readers, including Latinx communities about their power and contributions to the US economy. In building the platform, I’ve learned that community is one of the most powerful parts that is generated from being a creator and brand-builder.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am relatively new to San Diego, so I might be best suited to provide advice for New York City, where I’ve spent my last six years building my career! In NYC, I would take my friends to breakfast Brooklyn, at an a Venezuelan spot, Caracas, stop by DUMBO and walk across the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan. I’d take them around Chinatown, have drinks at karaoke bar Baby Grand Soho and stop by for dinner in Little Italy. I’d also take them to 30 Rock and a bike ride in Central Park. A night of salsa dance at Gonzalez y Gonzalez is a must.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely would thank my mentors, Anna Gonzalez, a journalist-turned-media strategist, Ramona Ortega, a fintech founder who has provided insight into the industry, Kelsey Murray, a social media global head, who has taught me a lot about leading a team and supporters like Investing Latina founder Jully-Alma Taveras.
