We had the good fortune of connecting with Louise Hall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Louise, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’d worked for a very large Fortune 500 healthcare company for many years. It was an amazing company and I led a global marketing team that enabled me to work with people from all over the world and travel extensively. My last position for that company was in Silicon Valley and I was ready for a change.
After my own Personal Color and Style Analysis experience with House of Colour back in England, I fell in love with knowing what the right colors and styles did for me. It really helped me to show up with confidence in my career and in my personal life, too. It brought me such joy and it really changed my life!
I knew that I wanted to open my own House of Colour business one day so that I could do the same for others. So, in 2019, I went from working for a huge multi-national company to working completely on my own!
I started the business six months before we were hit by a global pandemic, in a city that was completely new to me and where I knew nobody other than my husband, so it was quite a challenging start. I did everything I could to get my name out there to anyone that would listen and in the end, my persistence and hard work started to pay off.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The core of the business lies in two consults: Personal Color and Personal Style Analysis.
In Personal Color Analysis, I take the time to find your best color palette, including your “WOW” colors which are individually rated for you, making this a very personalized experience. You also get to learn the right colors for hair, jewelry and makeup. Knowing the right colors for you makes life so much easier, saves time and is such fun.
In Personal Style Analysis, you discover how to combine your body architecture with your own personality to understand what styles of clothing naturally look better on you, yet also reflect your authentic self. It’s how you tell the world who you are.
I make sure that my clients truly see what a difference the right colors and styles make on them, though I also make sure they enjoy the consult as much as possible. My British accent can sometimes confuse people, so there are always a few laughs!
We don’t get taught which colors or styles help make us look great or those that do quite the opposite. We have to experiment and we make mistakes. It can cause a lot of frustration and angst, plus a lot of wasted time and money, especially for women. I believe that everyone out there can benefit from knowing 100% what works for them. That is what I show them, so they can confidently go out into the world and achieve their professional or personal goals.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love fish tacos from Oscar’s on Turquoise Street in Pacific Beach. For a cocktail overlooking the ocean, the roof top patio at George’s is my absolute favorite. There are far too many choices to mention in Little Italy, so I’d recommend walking around a little and picking a spot that takes your eye. Since we’re an ocean city, kayaking at La Jolla shores is a must or visiting any one of our amazing beaches. The Midway is a great museum to visit and of course there are so many things to do in Balboa Park.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Given that I started my business six months before a pandemic and being forced to close down temporarily, I wouldn’t have made it through without a group of five other fellow House of Colour Business owners. We call ourselves “The Magnets” and meet every week by Zoom to support each other. I still haven’t met them all in real life!!
