We had the good fortune of connecting with Liliana Osuna and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Liliana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I had been working for a company for 8 years, and the last few years I always thought about starting my own business, and also that I did not have enough quality time with my children by having a full time job.
In addition, I was also afraid of the financial instability that I would have when I left my job. The pandemic arrived and the company gave me the opportunity to work from home, and what seemed easy was the most difficult situation. Because I am a mother of two, my children started their online school, I was working at the same time and trying to start my business, and additionally I had to do all the common household chores as a mother. The situation was chaotic but being at home I was able to accommodate my times in my own way and make everything work.
After several months, I thought: “Lili, if you managed to get through the last months successfully, you can do everything, it’s time to quit and start your own business”. I automatically lost all my fears and worries that I had years ago and started my own digital agency.
Another thought that motivated me to start my business was all the unfortunate losses that occurred due to COVID-19, from one moment to another we may not be here. I spoke with my husband and I remember that I told him: “I am going to start my own business and I prefer to take a risk and say that I tried, that I die and have stayed in my comfort zone.”
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is called Fiesta Marketing Boutique which is a binational digital agency, focusing on the hispanic business in California and Latin America.
Living on the Tijuana and San Diego border, we are faced with many opportunities. I worked more than 8 years as the Digital Marketing Manager for one of the most recognized television stations in Latin America. Being there I came to the conclusion that many Hispanic businesses lack a digital marketing strategy.
Along with a friend, we started looking for new clients. They recommended me to other businesses, and that’s how I began to grow. It was easy? Of course not, it was very hard because I was doing everything by myself, I remember I used to sleep every day around 3 am.
I decided to invest my earnings and create Fiesta Marketing Boutique, I hired amazing people and bought new equipment to adapt an office in Mexico, my employees are hard-working people who work from home on their own schedules, complying with their families and their activities.
As a boss I feel that a good work environment and the happiness of all employees is important.
Also I have another little business which I love, which is my instagram account @soymamasong, where I share my day to day as a working woman and mother in a very real and fun way. Don’t forget to follow me!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a friend was visiting the area, I would definitely take her to Little Italy for pizza, a walk around the Embarcadero area (visit the Kissing Sailor statue and the USS Midway museum).
Since I am from Mexico, I would definitely take her to Tijuana to enjoy the Baja culinary experience, especially a the carne asada and adobada tacos, and finally take her to the Valle de Guadalupe to visit my favorite restaurant “Finca Altozano” and some wine tasting tours at the best vineyards.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this Shoutout to my family, especially my husband, although he does not always agree with my decisions, he ends up supporting me.
To my beautiful sons Andre and Carlo who always motivate me and have the right words to give me strength to do my best.
I would also like to thank my father, who has been my best role model and who as a businessman always motivated me to start my own business, without him I would never have started my own business.
Finally, I want to thank my amazing employees that I am so proud of, my friends and the community that has been formed on my Instagram, all of them are extraordinary people who have had a very positive impact on my life.
Other: I also have my IG account @soymamasong. Where I share my day to day as a woman, working mother and wife. My intention is that more women feel identified with a woman who shows her life as it is without filters. I consider myself a fun person and I always try to look for the positive side of things. The blog @soymamasong is an account to have fun and laugh at the daily problems of an imperfect and real family. https://www.instagram.com/soymamasong/
