We had the good fortune of connecting with Lexi Keller and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lexi, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor to success is self-motivation. Self-motivation is defined by Merriam-webster as the drive by one’s own desires and ambitions. Whether you realise it or not, essentially everything we do for ourselves, and even others is stemmed from our inner most desires. Losing track of what we really want in life causes us to stumble, following, our ability to manage our own life suffers. I would know, I have personally experienced it. When it does happen, the only thing to do is to recognise it and move forward. No benefit comes from dwelling in the past, or the “what could have been”. With out the ability to self-motivate, I would be stuck in the same spot, absent of progression. With it, I am able to create opportunities for myself, and meet the goals that I make.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
To be a professional model includes a lot more work than being an average instagram influencer. Work is require. I constantly maintain healthy habits which include diet, physical self care, and emotional self care. Endurance training for poses, I have been required to hold the same pose for over five minutes before, so that the photographer may get the best angle, lighting, and so forth. None of which was easy in the beginning, but as I continued to work on myself, it became natural. My real friend was self-love and motivation, which is now translated as confidence in my photos. When I first started I had to do trade for print, TFP. The challenges that come from TFP is that you are meeting strangers, some of are unreliable, meaning that they never actually come through to shoot, or never return any photos from the shoot that you worked so hard at. Worse than that some, mostly men, will try to pressure vulnerable girls into doing things that they are not comfortable with. Which brings me to furthering my business endeavours, I am building a platform that will connect beginner models and photographers together. Creating a safe place to build your portfolio, avoiding people with bad intentions and those who never come through.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favourite spots for photographs in the San Diego are Ocean Beach and downtown because there is such a variety in such a short distance. However, my personal favourite spots include; Balboa park, specifically the archery range that includes a small hike under the brings, Old Town historical park, and the La Jolla tide pools.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When you truly succeed it’s never on your own; whether you are motivated or inspired by others, someone gave you the push you needed to be successful. For me, there are three people that I can contribute my modelling success, and my business idea to. Aaron Hall and Juan Chavez, aka Freelance Media Guru, are two amazing photographers that have been there since the start of my modeling career. Both have worked with me to create amazing pieces of art, multiple of which have been published in magazines. In addition to them, Citadel Penn, who began as a styled shoot organizer, but is now one of the proud owners of GO2PIX, a high-quality photo solutions company that specializes in professional portraiture and commercial photography. Without the three of them I would have not been able to progress so quickly too where I am now.
