Meet Laura Serrano | Makeup artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Serrano and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Since I was a little girl I always watched my mom putting on her makeup . She was my first inspiration to love makeup . I would sit there and watch her do it. In my head I was like “I want to do that “ I can’t wait to be old enough to use all this stuff . When I turned 15 ,after getting my makeup done for the first time for my Quinceñera,I fell in love with makeup and glamorous looks .. I said ,one day “I’m going to do this for other girls “.The beauty industry is something that it’s been growing since I can remember . I knew I had passion for makeup and that I wanted to pursue my dream as a makeup artist . That’s how everything started for me .

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is a little bit of everything , natural , full glamour , festival . I can be creative when it comes to color and painting . As a makeup artist I see art in everything . Is never easy to start a business but is not impossible if your constant fighting for it . I feel that my business as a makeup artist is different from other because of how I work with my clients . They become my friends and I personally like to build connections with others and support other small business as well. I feel that there’s light and room for success for others . I love to teach what I know even if it’s something small or big I don’t hold back and spread the love. There’s many challenges in this beauty industry , but the love and support from my clients and friends and family makes it easier for me to continue to do what I love .

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would recommend a vineyard and open scenery , beach time , family quality time . I love a place where it can be quiet and relaxing but I’m not afraid of the chaos either. Is hard to just pick one spot when there’s many things to explore .

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s 2 special people who are making my dream more positive in any way I can describe . My husband Julio and my mom as well. I’ll forever be thankful for them because even when I was starting like anyone else in anything, I was not perfect ,or the result was not what I envisioned. But they told pushed me to continue to practice and continue to never give up . And thankful as well for my first clients that give me the shot and opportunity to work with them .
