We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Hormiz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I am a San Diego born and raised first generation Middle Eastern woman with dreams. When I was about 8 years old my mother had her third child and needed help around the house. My favorite thing to do watching her grow up was being in the kitchen creating dishes that her whole family would enjoy. Being Middle Eastern and the oldest of all of my siblings, I had to take a majority of responsibility while my parents were working tirelessly to give my siblings and I a better life. Around that age, I found a love for baking cookies and cupcakes. Before you know it year after year, practice after practice I got better and better. How I came up with the name Delulu Desserts, was through the word “delulu” circulating all over Tik Tok and I definitely know you’ve all heard the phrase, “may all of your delulu come trulu” which soon enough became my business slogan. At 8 years old you would be delulu to think that this could ever be something I had dreamed about since I was a little girl and was able to make her dream come true.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I bake desserts of all kinds and I specialize in event arches. My menu consists of: cake pops, donuts, cream cheese stuffed croissants, cookies, rice Krispy treats, pretzel rods, chocolate covered strawberries, breakable hearts, heart cakes, number cakes, cheesecake and tiramisu cups and whole cheesecakes. I also do specialize in arches of all kinds. My arches range from balloons to flowers and I have a selection of a variety of different colors and sizes to work with. I am mostly proud of always being able to drown out the outside noise when it comes to my personal growth and achieving something. I am proud of the little 8 year old girl that had really BIG dreams and she made her own reality, whether there was support or not, she would never extinguished the fire she has inside of her and always believed in herself. What sets me apart from everyone else in this industry, are the deep connections I am able to form with my clients to better understand their vision and bring their delulu dreams to life!
The most important lesson I’ve learned along my journey is, to focus on my OWN journey and embrace any changes that life throws at you because the world truly does work in mysterious ways. Always invest in yourself and nurture everything that you have in your life. Nurturing everything has taught me to remain humble and kind in my adult life. You can not rush life, as life does not stop for anyone. Live presently and focus on the goals you have set for yourself. don’t let your personal fears and doubts dictate your actions. My faith in God has also taken me this far and without him and consistent prayer, I don’t think I would have made it this far. Consistency is everything and you must start with yourself first. Own it!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting for a week we would definitely be up in the Mission/Pacific beach area. I do love the beach and taking in the beauty that the world has to offer. San Diego is absolutely beautiful and we have the best Mexican food and sushi in town. Belmont Park is one of my favorite places to visit because it brings my inner child out!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would definitely like to take the time to thank my mother. My mother’s favorite hobby is definitely cooking, and although I might not be the best cook, but watching her craft made me want to be just as passionate about doing something in the kitchen. She definitely is someone that I look up to everyday! Shoutout to you mom, I love you and I hope you’re proud!
