We had the good fortune of connecting with Kylee Oehling and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kylee, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My husband and I decided to start our own business shortly after we got married! We had the idea to create weighted, wind-resistant towels. Kynd Co. was founded on the principles of eco-friendly and aesthetic living. Growing up in the Pacific North West, we both experienced windier beaches than we have here in Southern California! We also noticed that most people would have to put their flip-flops, books, phones, etc. on the corners of their towel to keep them from blowing up in the wind. Kynd Co. towels are the solution to that problem. We are big believers in making a difference. With each Kynd Co. towel purchased, we are saving 6 water bottles from ever seeing the ocean as each weighted corner has the equivalent of 1.5 water bottles of recycled plastic pellets. In addition, for every towel purchased, we donate 5% to Ocean conservation and remove 1 lb of trash from our local San Diego beaches. We both graduated from the Point Loma Nazarene Business School, and we are both entrepreneurial-minded. Although we both have full-time jobs, Kynd Co. is our passion project. There are always a million reasons why starting a business is scary, but we took the leap and decided to pursue something that we were both excited about.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Day to Day, I work as a Digital Marketing Specialist at local San Diego agency, Fidelitas Development. I love digital marketing, and enjoy getting to work with multiple clients on their social platforms, email efforts, and beyond! My passion for social media extends beyond my work, and into my personal life. I am also a content creator/micro-influencer. I love sharing lifestyle tips, on my Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and blog.

Taking the step to be the founder of Kynd Co. meant combining everything that I have learned both professionally and personally. I handle our marketing efforts, creative direction, and photography.

In everything, that I do, I strive to put forth my best effort. I am incredibly creative, and my passion for what I do shows in the work that I produce!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to shout out my husband, Jackson Oehling. He is the willpower behind Kynd Co.

Jackson encouraged me to pursue this idea, and he handles most of the operations, accounting, and nitty-gritty details! As the creative, Jackson and I make a great team. Kynd Co. would not have been made possible without Jackson. I feel very fortunate to work alongside my husband in making this dream business a reality!
