We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristynn Bennett and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristynn, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
I define success by the ability to minimize suffering and increase joy of living. I didn’t always define success so fluidly, but when I developed Interstitial Cystitis, I had to transition away from quantifiable measures and redefine success through more subjective measures. Goals that I had achieved as a young child, like bladder control, had to be achieved once again, this time under entirely different circumstances. I began to define success by the ability to reduce pain, stress, anxiety or overwhelm, as well as ability to achieve an ever-changing set of goals. When I did everything right and still couldn’t achieve the goals I set, it hit me really hard. At first I was suffering physically; now I was also suffering mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I began to accept that my health was never going to change. It felt like I was giving up, and I judged myself for being lazy and unmotivated. As I fought with my body, a couple key questions came to mind…Knowing that things are what they are, how can I be okay with that? How can I minimize my suffering and increase my enjoyment of life? These questions are the foundation for my current definition of success. Whether I’m measuring my own success or the success of my work with clients, I use these questions as a guide. It’s possible for objective measures to remain unchanged and still minimize suffering and increase joy of living, so it’s important to take baby steps. What is one small action that I can take today that will contribute to my overall happiness? It doesn’t matter how small a step I take. By investing in myself and my happiness, I’m creating success.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Bennett Energy Healing is a holistic health practice. We help our clients to feel great in their bodies, offering 1-on-1 support as they transition from surviving life with pain, stress, or anxiety to feeling happy, energetic, and free within their bodies. We offer a combination of complementary medicines including Reiki, aromatherapy, phototherapy, and wellness coaching. Our services work with the body’s natural rhythms to heal the root cause of dis-ease. Sessions are available internationally to humans and animals of all ages.
Because of my life experiences and health challenges, I’m able to approach each session from a place of empathy and compassion. I create a customized treatment plan based on each client’s short- and long-term goals. I take pride in personalizing each session, as well as offering opportunities to learn skills and information helpful in creating small, sustainable changes on the path towards health and wellness. Regardless of why my clients and students initially seek support, they all leave with a greater sense of self, rooted in their truth, and empowered with knowledge and options.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many great places to visit in San Diego. If I had to pick one place to take them, it would be the beach. Whenever friends or family visit, we inevitably set aside at least one day to hang out at the beach.
I also make sure we find time to go for a walk in my neighborhood. There are a lot of hills and beautiful landscaping, but my favorite thing to show people are the Rolando Village catwalks. Our neighborhood put a lot of effort into beautifying the catwalks and making it a must-see in San Diego. I love showing people the decorated stairways hidden between houses.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My fiancé, Nick, has been essential to my happiness and success. We met when I had only one autoimmune disorder. He has stuck by me and supported me wholeheartedly for the past 10 years and countless medical diagnoses. Every time I felt like giving up, he was there to pick me up and tell me that he believes in me. He helped me create a new definition of success based on what I value in life and reminds me daily that I’m unconditionally loved.
