We had the good fortune of connecting with Kira Finkenberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kira, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was young and naive when I started my business, so I wasn’t really sure what I was getting myself into, but my father was an entrepreneur as was my brother so it seemed like the right thing to do. I had a ton of support and a client ready to hire me, so the timing was right!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am in a unique situation where I do both Marketing and Ticketing for live events, most people do one or the other, but I can be one stop shopping for my clients. There are not a lot of independent people in my line of work, they mostly work for one of the major promoters, so that also gives me an advantage to pick up contracts! Starting my own business was one of the hardest things I have ever done, I was miserable for the first year – this was before smart phones, so once I could leave my desk, it was a whole new freedom and has given me the flexibility to pursue my passion in non-profits. I currently sit on the Board of Directors for 5 Jewish Non-Profits in San Diego.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Up and down the coast! Torrey Pines, La Jolla, all the beaches. I would love to take them to a Padres game, I have season tickets and love going to the ball park.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family, especially my dad and brother, deserves the credit for pushing me to take the risk to start my own company. They believed in me and encouraged me to take the leap! I can’t thank my friends enough that were there in the beginning and have supported me through the ups and downs!
