Meet Kimberly Kissell | Real Estate Agent/ Interior Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Kissell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I am been in the ‘Home” industry in one way or another since college. I have my degree in interior design, and fell into the escrow world for about 8 years, then moved to loans, and eventually wanted to take my knowledge and get into real estate so I could help clients with a very well rounded knowledge base of the compete industry. Real estate has always been a goal of mine and when the opportunity came about to start my business I took it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I graduated from college in 2004 and was able to get very good experience for a few years before the 2008 crash turned that world upside down. It was very challenging to keep a job since layoffs were happening right and left. I kept going until I found escrow and started learning more on foreclosures and bank owned properties. Once the market changed I started in residential escrow and was there for years, until I felt the need to learn more on the loan side and got into processing. The last couple years were challenging in that field, so I decided to fully take the leap to start my real estate career beginning 2023. It was a tough time to start a business in this field, but I thought if you don’t do it know, when? If you can persevere in this market and keep going, you know there is a passion inside like no other.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As an animal lover, I always take people to Coronado Dog beach. Its a great/ easy beach and you get all the doggies. Usually, going to a brewery for a beer, I love OB Brewing because the view is great! Walking around the zoo is always a winner. A hike somewhere, Torrey Pines is easy and always pretty, then lunch at gliderport, because its so unique. Grab a coffee at my local spot Heartwork, and then walk around the bay, or a walk down into Old Town. San Diego has so much to do its easy to cater to anyone or any type of group. Even though I’m a Giants fan, catching a Padres game is always fun, and then grabbing drinks food somewhere DT. I love trying new spots things to do, so usually when people come into town its a great way for us to try new stuff.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband. He started his own personal training business years ago, and 2 years ago we bought a phsyical location for his gym in Vista, Ca. Seeing him start a business and all that went into it inspired me that I could do it too. Both being business owners can be challenging, but it helps us understand what the other is going through, and we are each others biggest supporters.
