Meet Kimberly Bertrand | Esthetician and Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Bertrand and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimberly, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Trusting myself and letting my intuition really drive my decision making, even when it was super scary. This might not be a conventional answer, but I found that somehow I always knew which moves to make and when. I never went against my gut! Thanks to this, I have employed the same two estheticians since opening in 2017, we have our dream location right on the beach, and our product line and business continue to grow.

What should our readers know about your business?
Smartface is a skincare and beauty boutique located in Solana Beach. We offer customized facials, expert brow design, and have our our skin care brand fully formulated by myself. I not only own and run the business, I am a full time esthetician actively treating clients.
What sets us apart from any other spa is our deep dive consultation process into how we can truly impact not only our clients skin and appearance, but also on how we can help you truly feel like the best version of yourself. We ask questions, truly listen, and customize treatments that get clients excited for their results AND their experience.
I am most proud of my team. Take a read through our Yelp and Google reviews and you will see the impact they have made in the lives of our guest. It’s more than just a beauty treatment, it’s a relationship. I am most excited about seeing our team grow and reach their goals in life.
Was it easy? I would not say it was easy, but I would say it was organic. I always knew this was my calling so following my intuition and staying consistent helped manifest where we are now. Yes, there have been hard moments but I knew where I wanted us to end up and fought for it.
I want people know that Smartface was developed for THEM. Everything from our skincare products to the treatments we offer have been curated with our clients in mind.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is a great question because my best friend IS visiting very soon and we are going to be tourists together. I am embarrassed to admit that after living here for 8 years, I have never truly explored San Diego.
We are both adventure seekers so we want to spend the whole week hiking through San Diegos most intense trails and camp outdoors.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I was truly blessed at the beginning of my career, at age 23, when I was hired by Faryn Clark for the role of esthetician in her newly opening spa. Obviously, I sharpened by skills as a skin care provider during my years working for Faryn, but her gift of leadership is what has kept me growing and going almost 15 years later. She taught me how to lead over manage, the skill of running a business, to trust my intuition, and above all she taught me the power of consistency which today is still my number one key to success.
