Meet Kimberlee Wambua | Yoga Instructor & Sound Bath facilitator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberlee Wambua and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberlee, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for my business emerged from a deeply personal and transformative experience. A few years ago, after a close friend suffered the devastating loss of her baby shortly after childbirth, I felt a strong calling to support her in a meaningful way. I organized a private session that combined yoga, meditation, and meditative painting for her and her close friends, creating a sacred space for emotional release and healing. Witnessing the profound impact this session had on my friend and those around her illuminated the powerful synergy between these practices in fostering well-being. In 2022, I founded my business Beauty For Ashes Yoga Wellness LLC, which was inspired by one of her favorite Bible scripture, Isaiah 61:3.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is rooted in a deep respect for traditional yoga teachings, where I emphasize foundational principles like breathwork, mindfulness, and alignment in every mini-retreat, workshop, and personal session. What sets my practice apart is the way I blend the timeless teachings of yoga, meditation, sound baths and meditative painting with an innovative, modern approaches for women and teenage mom that I work with at an alternative high school in San Diego, CA. This approach ensures that yoga’s wisdom remains relevant and accessible in today’s fast-paced world.
The journey to building my wellness business was anything but easy. I faced significant challenges, particularly with my health, including two surgeries last year due to endometriosis. These experiences, though painful, led me to discover the healing power of Sound Healing, which became a cornerstone of my recovery and personal growth. Overcoming these obstacles taught me resilience and the importance of integrating holistic practices for both physical and emotional well-being. Through my brand, I want the world to know that healing and transformation are possible, even in the face of adversity. My story, which began with a personal practice in San Diego in 2009 after a devastating divorce, has evolved into a mission to make yoga and wellness accessible, supportive, and deeply transformative for all.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting, I’d plan an unforgettable week filled with the best of San Diego and a day trip to Catalina. We’d kick off the week with a relaxing beach day at La Jolla Shores, soaking up the sun and maybe even trying out some jet skiing or maybe relax by laying out on the sand. For dinner, we’d head to George’s at the Cove, where we could enjoy fresh seafood with a stunning ocean view. The next day, we’d explore Torrey Pines State Reserve for a scenic hike with breathtaking coastal views, followed by a leisurely brunch with mimosas at Great Maple—perfect for some post-hike indulgence.
Midweek, we’d take a day trip to Catalina Island, where we could snorkel, explore the charming town of Avalon, and enjoy a beachfront lunch at a local café. Back in San Diego, we’d visit Balboa Park, taking in the museums and gardens, and maybe catch a show at The Old Globe Theater. The weekend would be all about relaxing and enjoying quality time with my son, Christian. We’d have a fun beach day at Coronado, followed by a family-friendly brunch at the Hotel del Coronado. The evenings would be spent hanging out, maybe with a casual dinner in Little Italy, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere. This itinerary would capture the essence of San Diego’s beauty and laid-back vibe while making memories with loved ones.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate a special shoutout to my grandmother, who played a pivotal role in shaping the person I am today. She is a resilient, God-fearing woman who has always been dedicated to helping those in need. Her unwavering strength, work ethic, and compassionate heart have deeply influenced me. She taught me the value of hard work, the importance of inner strength, and, most importantly, the significance of having a heart for others. My grandmother’s example continues to inspire me every day, and I am profoundly grateful for the lessons she has imparted to me.
