We had the good fortune of connecting with Key Exposure and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Key, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
My purpose in life was to be a creative. I found art and photography in a time where I didn’t know how to express myself and my confidence was low. So I found a way, I used art as my voice for the things I didn’t know how to say or even just a way to bring me peace when my mind would race wild. My medium is acrylic paint, with every stroke it’s a relief. When I set up my canvas and use my brushes it’s an escape to my paradise. I started hosting painting sessions which people really enjoyed and they found comfort and joy as well. As for photography, I believe everyone deserves a hype man and precious moment should last a lifetime. In this industry a lot of well known photographers go for the “model” look, but I believe everyone is picture perfect. I want to be the change in the industry that shows whoever wants to be in front of a camera on a magazine dreams do come true and everyone is uniquely beautiful.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Something I am most proud of would be my process. I always stay true to how I am feeling and allow it to be fully expressed in each piece I paint. My photography has no limits and it tells a story, from the background, to the pose I want my audience to see a scenario that is perfectly captured. To get where I am today was not easy, it was a lot of hard work, hustle, self promoting and support. There were many times I would get impatient with myself and end a project or stop looking for clients. Some lessons I learned along the way would be social media is your friend, use every opportunity available to promote your brand, and If you love it do not give up. Something I would want the world to know about my brand is self expression is important, you deserve to be seen and we are here to help you regardless of wether that is through art or photography you express your idea and together we will create the perfect outcome.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My befriend and I are foodies so we are eating at, home style Hawaiian you have to order lava chicken, Lunas Mexican Food, The crack shack, breakfast b*tch, morning glory, wings n things and The Buffalo Spot. I love the outdoors so my favorite hiking spots are three sisters falls, cedar creek falls, potatoes chip and Cowles Mountain. And best beaches, windansea, La Jolla and mission beach.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
