We had the good fortune of connecting with Keri Kemper and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keri, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind the success of Saughter is the experience that we are able to offer our clients. We started out creating one-of-a-kind jewelry experiences through permanent pieces for sisters, best friends, couples, and more. As we have grown we no offer an array of fully customizable pieces and events to really set us apart from other jewelry brands on the market. One of our favorite pieces of the business is our wedding packages. It is so special to be invited to the most important day in our clients’ lives and be trusted to created not only beautiful jewelry but memorable experiences for them and their loved ones.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been in sales and marketing for over 20 years and the leap to start something of my own was not an easy one. Leaving the security of my career for the unknown was terrifying but at the same time thrilling. So many people look on from the outside and see only the superficial, small time commitment, fun events etc. That is just a facade. It’s hard work. Everyday. I left my 9-5 job for a 24/7 job and the truth is you’ll only be successful if you give it 150%. Ideation, creation, planning, buying, marketing, setting up, facilitating, breaking down, shipping customer service… It’s all you.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We really love our hometown in North County. There are so many amazing things to do in just a few miles of coastline. When my best friend comes to town these are our MUST DOs in no particular order. We are definitely getting our favorite margaritas and brunch from Carte Blanche in Oceanside- the guava foam on top is unreal. Next we would travel down PCH to 101 piercing – they have the cutest selection and the owners are so nice and well… you can never have enough piercings especially if you love jewelry as much as us! Then we would pop over to The Light and Space Collective for the ultimate healing day, reiki, acupuncture, facials, massage you name it they do it, and in the chicest calmest space you could ask for. Lastly, we would grab the BEST tacos from Craft Coast Beer & Tacos and head to the beach to watch the sunset!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Our shoutout has to go to Julie Bedard of The Artie Party. She is the one who encouraged and supported us since day one. Day one when we were too afraid to make the leap, day 25 when we had no idea where that leap was going to take us, and now at almost day 365 continuing to support our growth within our market space. She’s there to lend an ear, give direction or just say our name in a room full of opportunities and we could not be more grateful for all that she has done.
