ersonalAlexandraLeigh__DSC015We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandra Leigh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexandra Leigh, what do you attribute your success to?
I run a brand design studio specializing in branding wellness and spiritual brands. While I have been a designer for many years, deciding to go on my own with my own design studio was very empowering. As many know, starting a business is not an overnight process. It requires a lot of time, patience, support, and belief in yourself. I think we tend to look at how other successful entrepreneurs in our industry run their business- this is insightful yet also can hinder ourselves from showing up authentically. When I knew I wanted to take my business seriously, I invested in coaching support. It was from this support that I realized I could run my studio how I wanted. And since then, I’ve been leaning into my business in a way that’s true to me, even though it may look different from how many other design studios operate. And leaning into my business authentically has allowed me to create a beautiful process that is so uniquely mine, and makes my studio and the branding work I create special and one-of-a-kind.
To start, my brand process is very intuitive. My mom is a psychic medium, so growing up in a spiritual house-hold is why this lifestyle is so important to me today, and why I work with spiritual brands. It is also where my intuition comes from, and my intuition integrated in my design process makes it meaningful. I infuse a bit of strategy because strategy is important, but when I start working with someone, the visual brand identities come to me in strong visions. I can read the energy of the brand, whether its strong and empowering with bold colors and strong typography, or whether it’s soft and ethereal with light airy colors and a delicate feel. Each brand has its own energy, and by tapping into that energy, the brand creates itself, as if its completely made for each person, and as if I am simply a creative channel. My clients are extremely intuitive too, and together we tap into the essence of the brand and then I manifest it to life through brand design.
And the way I care is the second important factor of my business. While a lot of designers have fast processes, mine takes a while because of the level of care I give each client, and because of the level of detail I put into my design work. My brand service is not just about the end product, but about the luxury experience I give each client. I work with them intimately, and we create the brand from a space of connection, so by the time their brand identity is done they feel they were seen throughout the whole process. I also include so much customization into the branding. I hand-letter and customize the typography in the logos (the logo fonts are drawn), and any illustration in the branding is done by me as well. This ensures a high-quality brand that is so one-of-a-kind.
By honoring the amount of care and time I want to give each brand, that is why each of the brands are so perfect for each person. Each brand is created intuitively, from a strong connection, from attention to detail, and love.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m an intuitive brand, web and packaging designer for wellness and spiritual brands. Branding is more than just a logo- it is looking deeply into the heart and soul of someone’s business to craft a visual identity that is so aligned. It is the logo variations, colors, and font suite that will be used across all of their platforms, allowing one to show up consistently and professionally, while feeling aligned and empowered to share their magic. I integrate intuition, strategy and custom typography and illustration into the brands I create to make them one-of-a-kind.
Before my design studio, I was living in New York working as a designer in the corporate beauty world. I was always freelancing on the side, yet knew I wanted to go deeper into my own freelance and eventually make it into my own studio. Now this is my work, and I am so grateful. Yet there are so many wonderful challenges that come with it. I say wonderful because even though it can feel difficult, each challenge has a beautiful lesson that only teaches me more about me, allowing me to embody myself as a business owner even more. Having a business is a sure-way that you will have to look at all your shadows, because you are showing up 100% as you. When you are working at a company you are not passionate about, it is easy to show up on “auto-pilot”. This is not the case with having a business, which is why it is so worth it but also why it can be challenging. Having my business has allowed me to look at my limiting beliefs, to see where they come from, heal them and to challenge these limiting beliefs so that I can further lean into my business with faith and courage. This is a constant work in progress, yet it has been getting easier and easier as I continue to do the healing work with support. I will constantly be evolving and shifting and I am excited to see where my journey takes me.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have been living in LA for a year and a half now, yet I still feel new! I am still exploring LA and the beautiful surrounding areas of SoCal yet here are places I love so far:
– I live on the border of Silverlake and Los Feliz. I would take them to the crystal and coffee shops that I like in my area. Some cafes and crystal shops I like: Dinosaur Coffee (where I am currently at writing this right now!), Sacred Light Crystal Shop, and Spellbound Sky crystal shop. And for hanging out with a friend I love the vibe of Figaro Bistro =)
– I love exploring the west side because I love the ocean. and I love taking people to Point Dume beach in Malibu
– I love the surrounding areas of LA, and am excited to explore more of it. I have visited some of San Diego and I love Ojai. I am looking forward to visiting Santa Barbara, Joshua Tree etc.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am so grateful for the coaching support I’ve received: Steph Wharton- She’s a business coach who taught me I can run my business in a way that’s true to me.
Rachel Kelly Coaching- Rachel is a coach I’m currently working with; working with her is allowing me heal past trauma and belief systems so I can expand into the business owner I am meant to be.
And am so grateful for the support from my mom: Lynn Darmon is a psychic medium who communicates with those on the other side. Growing up in such a spiritual, loving household has allowed me to follow my passions, and it is why I am so spiritual today, which is a huge part of my business.
